The way they've pitched suggests we should take them seriously. They have been getting terrific pitching all postseason long and you already know they have the offense necessary to keep up with the Dodgers so I think they're for real but still a long way to go in this series and the Dodgers won't go down without a fight.

Astros are toast, Dodgers will be if they don't win Game 3.

Both the Braves and the Rays are getting great pitching in their respective series. In the case of the Rays they're also getting outstanding defense and usually pitching combined with great defense and timely hitting makes you damn near impossible to beat in the playoffs.

10:35 pm: X-rays on Kiermaier’s wrist came back negative, per Topkin and Bob Nightengale of USA Today (Twitter links). He has been diagnosed with a contusion.
10:30 pm: Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier exited tonight’s ALCS Game 3 in the sixth inning after being hit by a pitch, as first noted by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). Right fielder Manuel Margot moved to center, with Hunter Renfroe coming off the bench to play right.
Kiermaier took a 99 MPH fastball from Enoli Paredes off his left wrist area, as Daren Willman of MLB.com noted. He ran for himself but was replaced defensively in the following half-inning. Kiermaier posted a .217/.321/.367 line in the regular season and hasn’t hit much this postseason. He’s an otherworldly outfielder, though, and has been a vital piece of a Rays’ defense that has shined during their playoff run.

As much as I hate the Dodgers I think they still have a very real chance to win this series. They obviously have to win game 3 but they will have their confidence after almost pulling off the improbable comeback in game 2. So I'm not counting them out just yet but I think the Braves have definitely been the better team through 2 games I just hope they keep it up.

I have to give Dusty Baker a little credit tonight for the game he managed. Leaving Greinke in there in the 6th is something that he might not have done earlier in his managerial career but tonight he rode his horse and it paid off in the 6th with the bases loaded. The Astros still have a long way to go but tonight was huge for their confidence.

Big wins for the teams that really needed it.

Luke Voit’s plantar fasciitis is under control after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection, per the Athletic’s Lindsey Adler (via Twitter). Voit will be in a walking boot for a week or two, but the Yankees expect him to be healed by the end of that time. Voit didn’t miss any time to the issue, and he certainty didn’t appear to be overly affected while slashing .277/.338/.610 and leading the majors with 22 home runs.
While the Dodgers drub the Braves in game three of the NLDS, let’s stay in the junior circuit and check in on some non-playoff teams…
                                                        • The Baltimore Orioles laid off 11 workers and furloughed 35 more, per Nathan Ruiz of the Baltimore Sun. At present, those furloughed employees are set to return to work on February 1st to match the timeline for spring training. Teams all across MLB have laid off large portions of the their staff because of revenue lost to the coronavirus pandemic. No fans were allowed in Camden Yards for the 60-game season, very much complicating the revenue picture for the Orioles (as with other clubs) moving forward. Ruiz provides a quote from GM Mike Elias that sums up the 2020 season, saying: “Baseball teams do a lot of planning, looking ahead, and just all of that is just totally out of the window because of this event that came in and turned the world upside down.”
                                                        • Unsurprisingly, the Angels will not be filling their GM vacancy until after the World Series, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register (via Twitter). The Angels aren’t particular close to finding their next hire, per Fletcher. It certainly makes sense that they might take some time. On the other hand, given how much work there is to be done in the offseason, some urgency to set a clear organizational direction prior to the impactful events of the offseason also makes sense. Eppler was hired in early October of 2015, though in that case, Jerry Dipoto, the previous GM, had stepped down in July.

we will have to see how much damage the stabbing did and how successful the surgery was. Hopefully only muscles involved and no ligaments or tendons were damaged.
