yeah Jake Allen is hitting a groove, might be the type of goalie who cannot quite handle the workload and pressure of being the primary, but with the way this team plays in front of him, he can thrive as the backup

Zdeno Chara will not play for the Boston Bruins against the Washington Capitals on Monday.

The 42-year-old defenseman will have a scheduled follow-up procedure for a broken jaw sustained during the Stanley Cup Final and is expected to be ready to play at the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, the Bruins' first game after the Christmas break.

"It's a day-to-day thing, so unless there's some complication going into it, which I don't suspect there would be, he'll back in in Buffalo [on Friday]," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said.

Columbus Blue Jackets placed right wing Cam Atkinson on injured reserve Thursday with a sprained ankle that will keep him out for two to three weeks.

The move is retroactive to Dec. 19, when Atkinson injured his ankle against the Los Angeles Kings.

Atkinson, 30, has nine goals and 12 assists in 35 games this season. He scored 41 goals last season and has 20 or more goals in each of the past six seasons.

Columbus recalled left wing Jakob Lilja, center Ryan MacInnis and defenseman Gabriel Carlsson from its AHL affiliate in Cleveland. The Jackets also called up defenseman Adam Clendening for the first time this season.
