#247It is an improbable possibility that SBR now sucks because of all these new posters with 2013 join dates - AristotleComment -

#248I just wonder why the line isnt closer like Silva Weidman. People are all saying the same thing. Weidman is not "impressive" Silva is just "special". Same thing here Jones is "p4p" Gus doesn't look "impressive" at all. I guess it's because someone like GSP isn't picking Gus. But Phil Davis has said that Gus's wrestling is really good now with Gus taking him down in practice. I think the camp Gus comes from is even more impressive than Serra Longo's. Gus is younger with more time in the sport than Wiedman. Only difference I see here is Jones has better wrestling than Silva but Silva has a way better guard than Jones.Comment -

#249Gus taking Jones down nears <1% probability, so I doubt his guard matters. The difference between Jones' striking and Gustafsson's striking is significantly bigger than the difference between Silva's striking and Weidman's striking, though. Weidman is a much better striker than Gustafsson in most areas, and Silva is only slightly better than Jones in an MMA context, if at all.Comment -

#251And MD you already said you're betting Gus. Just like you love taking credit for picking Wiedman but spent 4 pages talking up Silva in the play by play thread.Comment -

#252I said I'll probably bet Gus by KO, as long as the price is roughly what I think it'll be. I also didn't talk up Silva, I just argued with the absolutely retarded points that people were using to discredit him. I don't argue in favour of or against a fighter based on whether I've bet on them or not, that's silly.Comment -

#254That is, again, silly. Pedigree != MMA success. If that has any kind of validity, then how can you argue that Gus can stop Jones' takedowns?Comment -

#256CARSON, Calif. -- Drip. Drip.Red droplets won't stop falling from Steve Mocco's nose."It's been bleeding for a while," he said, not needing to be asked before saying something.
Of the six members of the 2008 US freestyle team, four went on to fight in MMA, and to date, not a single one has lost ever, compiling a perfect record of 29-0.Comment -

#258I never argued that. I said he would be taken down. But would get back up and be a KO threat late in the fight do to Gus having superior cardio and pace.Comment -

#262Must think low of Gus's footwork, speed and accuracy to favor Jones plodding forward front leg heavy throwing push attacks to the knees.Comment -

Weidman will drag him down to the ground and drown him there in the rematch superior positioning chest to chest, and work GNP and put him away in the later frames.
------------
Jones will get scolded beyond belief if he tries a standup approach with Gustafsson, and i'll bet everything that they havent formulated a gameplan that revolves around him in any way standing and trading with Gustafsson. When he was playing 'tag your it' with Machida he got yelled at in between rounds for playing into that game. Gameplan here will be takedowns, takedowns, takedowns, takedowns and try and keep Gustafsson away at all costs.Comment -

I'll give you Gus +500 for up to 600 SBR points if you're interested.Comment -

#266Nope, I just think that Gus will eat shots at range, and his usual style will be pretty ineffective. His best chance is to be as aggressive as humanly possible with no regard for his own safety, and stopping takedowns at all costs.

#267Jones has a better wrestling pedigree as well as better MMA wrestling. Aside from being a juco champ Jones was also a decent Greco roman wrestler. If that's not enough hes already beaten Hamill, Vlady Matyushenko, Vera, Bader, Rashad and Chael. Most of those guys were outwrestled by Jones and all of them are decent wrestlers. I really don't see how you can compare Gustaffsons wrestling to jones. His best bet is to use footwork to completely avoid wrestling with jones at all.Comment -

#271Well he stuffed Rashads wrestling. I think he was more interested in outstriking him in that fight. He did outwrestle Hamill, Matyushenko, Vera, Bader and Chael though. Chael just submitted Shogun by the way. You act like Chael is a can or something. I know he is a middleweight but it's not unimpressive to go out there and dominate him in the wrestling department. I guess you already placed your bet but IMO I would suggest taking Gustaffson with points. Gustaffson is unlikely to stop Jones. Take into consideration your argument that Jones will gas. What are you predicting will take place in this fight to make him gas? Gustaffson trying to use a lot of movement to win an outside striking contest? How is that going to make Jones gas? If anything Gustaffson will be the one tiring more from that because he is the one that is going to have to really get on his bike and move around the octagon. Jones has a superior reach so he should be able to hit him a lot easier. I think Gustaffson can win some rounds or at least make some of them look reasonably close so I don't think he is a bad bet with points. I think him Gustaffson by ko could happen but I would be really surprised to see it. If anything I would take Gustaffson by KO of the night because if it happens you know he is getting it. I do think the payout will be roughly the same as Gus by KO though so it might not be worth it.Comment -
