This is irrelevant aside from the reach advantage Jones has over all LHWs. Machida didn't cut weight but was strong enough to stuff take downs from almost all wrestlers, and explosive enough to sumo-shove Silva to the ground where he got knocked out.

I'm actually sad to see Machida cutting to MW especially at this age, due to getting on the wrong end of decisions. I like seeing people win who don't cut weight.

Kind of the point. Jones wont be looking super human from simple size advantage. The way he finished Machida relied heavily on being much taller than his opponent. That standing choke does not work on Gus. The leverage would not be there.

People here seem to think Jones wins because of insane skill advantages. I disagree. I think he's got very worn out shitty fighters(Rampage) or simply outclassed guys with superior size.

My point is Jones does not hold a skill advantage over Gus and the size will be the same. Fight is close to 50/50.

Anderson fought REAL cans for years then the first guy with semi respectable skills beat the shit out of him.

I know you're joking but really people talk about Jones like he is the best wrestler on the planet. Guy was a community college champ with nothing special going on. I realize his mma game makes his takedowns look awesome but 9 times out of 10 he's fighting old and/or small guys. I dont rates Jones wrestling that high. Good but not great. Cormier would absolutely embarrass him and Jones knows this.

The list does not go on and on. Jones has never fought a equal in size and age.

No one is saying his skill is zero. But take Machida if he is just as skilled as Jones but at a huge size disadvantage. Jones is going to win almost every time.

Gus also uses his size, it's why I think the fight is so close.

Boxing will not be enough. I think Gus's wrestling wins him the fight by keeping himself up right and not taking hellbows.

In a 5 round fight on a +600 dog, the points handicap will be around +9.5. Depends if they want to give out less points but offer more plus money, or give a ton of points at a juiced price.

That's because that fight was -110 both ways. The line indicated a competitive fight, so the point spread had to as well. Also, that fight was favored to go the distance.

This is not -110 both ways, Jones is -800 and it's -500 to end inside the distance . If they offered Jonnes -3.5, it would be like -600, what's the point? Point handicaps are like NFL point spreads. If one team is -800, they're not going to put up a spread of -3.

The ML and the the number of rounds are the main deciding factors for point handicaps in MMA. When it's 5 rounds, that's usually more points. when the ML is very wide, that's a ton of points. Then add on top that the fight is vastly favored to end ITD, and that's even more points. We might even see -12.5 for Jones, but -9.5 is more likely.

To me it is just another GSP, Silva, Mayweather type line where the books want plays on Gus like i said about Badar last fight. I think the books think the talent gap is huge and don't want anyone to take Jones. I was all over JOnes against Sonnen and that almost bite me in the ass cause freak things can happen. I just wonder why the line isnt closer like Silva Weidman. People are all saying the same thing. Weidman is not "impressive" Silva is just "special". Same thing here Jones is "p4p" Gus doesn't look "impressive" at all. I guess it's because someone like GSP isn't picking Gus. But Phil Davis has said that Gus's wrestling is really good now with Gus taking him down in practice. I think the camp Gus comes from is even more impressive than Serra Longo's. Gus is younger with more time in the sport than Wiedman. Only difference I see here is Jones has better wrestling than Silva but Silva has a way better guard than Jones.
