I was able to Connect my MetaMask wallet with ETH and swap ETH for RYOSHI on Shibaswap. Confusing process for the first time, but I got it now. To the moon! Hopefully.

Setup an acct at Gate.io by following some instructions, but can't seem to find it there. Do I really have to setup an acct at uniswap or shibaswap to transfer my ETH to get RYOSHI?

You need BNB instead of ETH since it's on the Binance Smart Chain. You can use a Trust Wallet or Metamask using Pancakeswap.
