theScore Bet Missouri betting app 🏀

theScore Bet is just the old ESPN BET app, but reskinned with new branding. ESPN had long been a premier name in sports broadcasting, but unfortunately, that name recognition wasn't enough to sustain the ESPN BET sportsbook.

On Nov. 6, operator PENN Entertainment announced that it would terminate its partnership with ESPN and shut down ESPN BET on Dec. 1, the same day that Missouri sports betting went live.

Notable Missouri sports betting developments

January 2026

-The Kansas City Royals announce a new partnership with Circa Sportsbook, taking over the former partnership that was held by Underdog before it bowed out of Missouri before legal sports betting went live. 

-The Missouri Gaming Commission unanimously denies the NCAA's request to remove player prop betting and first-half under markets from licensed sportsbooks in the state. 

-Xpoint, a new geolocation provider, has entered the Missouri sports betting market, providing location verification and other compliance technology to sportsbook operators. 

-The list of online sportsbooks available in Missouri will not be impacted by the Kansas City Chiefs' pending move out of the state and into the neighboring Wyandotte County, Kansas. It will remove one of the available sportsbook licenses in Missouri, but the Chiefs declined to take on a betting partner ahead of the launch of legal betting. 

-Multiple Missouri sportsbooks introduce new welcome offers ahead of the NFL postseason, including DraftKings, FanDuel, and bet365. 

December 2025

-FanDuel Predicts launches in five states: Alabama, Alaska, South Carolina, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The new prediction market app is expected to roll out in Missouri and other states in the coming months.

-Missouri surpasses expectations, bringing in more than $73 million in wagers in just the first week of legal sports betting in the state. 

-Caesars Sportsbook updates its welcome bonus in Missouri. New users can now get a 100% Bet Match up to $250.

-Multiple college athletes in Missouri make public comments about the increased pressure they face now that residents can bet on their games. 

-The Kansas Lottery Commission claims the Sunflower State expects to see reduced gaming revenues following Missouri's sports betting launch on Dec. 1. Kansas collected $16.7 million in sports betting tax revenue in the 2025 fiscal year, with most of that amount coming from online operators.

-Missouri sports betting sees a massive first week of legal sports betting, fueled by the Kansas City Chiefs playing in a big Sunday Night Football game on Dec. 7 and being in the playoff hunt yet again. Notably, the Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium was a betting hotspot, with geolocation company GeoComply detecting over 10,000 active sports betting accounts at the stadium during the game.

-The Missouri Gaming Commission praises the state's rollout of legal sports betting, with the rules-writing team receiving special attention for its ability to establish a regulatory framework in time for the Dec. 1 launch deadline. According to GeoComply data, there were more than 250,000 active betting accounts on launch day.

-Market analyst Christopher Boan claims Missouri is "positioned to become a strong sports betting state due to its professional sports landscape, citing major teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Blues, and St. Louis Cardinals. Boan estimates the Show-Me State could generate close to $4 billion in wagers in its first year.

-Missouri sports bettors recorded more than 2.6 million geolocation checks in the first 24 hours of legal sports betting, according to GeoComply. Additionally, Missouri recorded 188,000+ pre-registrations and had 250,000+ active accounts after one day. 

-The launch of legal sports betting in Missouri brings new tax implications to bettors, who are reminded that the IRS says all income is taxable, even if it comes from sports betting. 

-According to BetMGM, the first sports bet in Missouri history was placed at 12:01 a.m. CT at the BetMGM Sportsbook retail location inside Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau. Unfortunately, the wager, a $100 four-team parlay, lost.

-Missouri sports betting launches, becoming the 39th state to legalize sports betting. Notably, Missouri restricts prop bets on games involving athletes at Show-Me State colleges or universities, a concern that has grown amid nationwide integrity scandals involving player-specific wagers.

• 2018: Months before the US Supreme Court strikes down PAPSA, former Rep. Bar Korman introduces HB2320, allowing riverboat casinos and DFS operators to add sports betting to their list of services.
• 2016: Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signs HB 1941 into law, allowing daily fantasy contests in the state.

Missouri sports betting laws, explained

Sports betting in Missouri is regulated by the Missouri Gaming Commission, which also oversees riverboat casinos, charitable bingo, and fantasy sports contests.

Now that sports betting has gone live, people over 21 who are physically located within state lines can legally place bets. This is an important distinction, as it means you don’t need to be a Missouri resident to access sports betting in the state. In addition to online sports betting, you can place bets at physical retail locations and special districts located near Missouri’s professional sports stadiums.

In terms of taxes, the MGC has set the tax rate for legal sports betting at 10% of sports betting revenue, which is well below the national average of 19% that sportsbooks paid in 2024. While sports bettors don’t have to worry about these taxes, which are paid by legal sportsbooks, you do have to pay federal taxes on winnings of $5,000 or more, at a 24% tax rate.
