European Soccer Top Picks
Moneyline: Dortmund (-205) ★★★★
Dortmund won each of their previous three matches against Stuttgart in the German league. Even though they are not in their best moment, this is a match the hosts can’t afford to let slip. Stuttgart haven’t won in their previous 14 Bundesliga away matches, and sit 14th in the table after 10 matches. They triumphed only once since the start of the campaign, by beating bottom club Bochum 4-1 last week.
Dortmund have been inconsistent of late, but matches like the one against VfB are liked by players. That’s because an opponent with Stuttgart’s status can get you back on track. Stuttgart is an open, out-of-form opponent, so a lot of action is expected in this clash.
Spread: PSG -1.5 (-130) ★★★★
The two teams come from different worlds. Ajaccio is newly promoted and hoping to avoid relegation, while PSG already views winning the domestic league as a sealed objective. Paris haven’t been letting goals fly past their opponents with a relatively modest 29 on the campaign, but Ajaccio should be a different story.
PSG have kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven Ligue 1 away matches and Ajaccio’s goal-scoring form is not worrying them either. The Corsican side managed to hit the net on only eight occasions since the beginning of the season. PSG should be able to distance themselves fast in this match, so a victory by at least two goals looks more than probable.
Total: Leverkusen-Wolfsburg Over 2.5 (-178) ★★★
Leverkusen vs. Wolfsburg is a confrontation between two of the German season’s biggest underachievers. Leverkusen recently appointed Xabi Alonso as their manager, but the Spaniard could do little to improve Bayer’s many defensive problems. Leverkusen have conceded 14 goals in their last five matches across all competitions.
Wolfsburg are not as aerated at the back, but they are also encouraging opponents with their mistakes. It’s hard to see this game finishing with fewer than three goals scored.
Upset: Betis to win or draw (-185) ★★★★
Betis won each of their last six La Liga home matches. They’ve been constant and manager Diego Simeone knows a tough battle awaits when his Atletico club visits the green side of Sevilla this weekend.
Betis has scored 10 goals through five home matches, while conceding only two. The fortress they built at home brought them the maximum number of points available in the matches they hosted. Given the context, Atletico wouldn’t be bothered playing to a draw when they travel to the Benito Villamarin Stadium.
Prop bet: 3-5 goals in Milan-Monza (-115) ★★★★
There were at least three goals scored in five of AC Milan’s last six Serie A matches. Also, Milan scored at least twice in five of their last six home matches.
The defending champions sit third in Serie A, while Monza, who are owned by Milan’s former boss Silvio Berlusconi, are newly promoted and safe for now in 14th place. A match of high intensity with many goals is expected at the San Siro when the two sides meet on Saturday.
Parlay: Bologna to win and both teams to score (+350) ★★★
Bologna and Lecce have both won just a single match since the season started. They sit 17th and 16th, respectively, in the Serie A table.
If they want to avoid trouble in the red zone, Bologna, who haven’t been confronted with relegation threats over the past years, need to win against the minnows. Encouraged by a brave outing against league leaders Napoli at the Maradona stadium last week (2-3), the hosts feel obliged to build on that performance and show they don’t belong at the wrong end of the table.
