Manchester City are one season removed from winning four straight Premier League crowns. Last season's debacle was exactly what Pep Guardiola's team needed to wipe the slate clean before a fresh start.

Finishing third should make them thirsty for that winning feeling, reigniting their championship flame.

As predictable as a downpour on a winter's day in Manchester, the Cityzens reinforced during the offseason, spending a comparatively conservative $200 million on six new players, including the highly regarded Tijjani Reijnders.

While those additions should be instrumental in helping City recapture the Premier League title, Rodri's re-inclusion is the most prized piece of the puzzle. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner should be fully fit come September after suffering a brutal season-ending ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Sunderland gained promotion to the Premier League the hard way after pulling off two comebacks in the playoffs, including during stoppage time of the final against Sheffield United. They finished fourth place in the Championship, 24 points behind Leeds United and Burnley.

Sunderland fielded the youngest starting XI in the Championship, with an average age of just 23 years and 316 days. While widespread youth is advantageous in the second tier of English football, it can represent a death sentence in the top flight.

The club bolstered its lineup while spending $162 million on seven new additions, more than the other two promoted sides. While that should help their cause, I don't think it will be enough to avoid finishing at the foot of the table.

Aston Villa has been a model of consistency under the observant and proactive eye of manager Unai Emery. The team was in tatters when Emery took charge in October 2022 while reeling in 14th place.

The Spanish tactician and strategic mastermind's arrival spearheaded a resurgence, with Aston Villa finishing seventh during his first partial season in charge. Emery led the Villains to fourth place and a Champions League spot the subsequent season, which he followed up with a sixth-place finish.

Aston Villa hasn't splurged like the other teams in and around them during the offseason, but their continuity and cohesiveness should offset the comparative lack of spending. The irony of the monstrous Haaland getting shorter odds than Martin Short is not lost on me.

But I'm willing to pay the pricey rate while backing the freakish Norwegian to secure a third Golden Boot in his fourth Premier League season.

Haaland registered the most goals in his first and second seasons in the top flight before finishing behind Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak in 2024-25. However, Haaland played only 31 matches last season, three fewer than Isak and seven short of Salah.

There's more to come from the towering Norwegian, I'm sure of it.

The 25-year-old is only just entering his prime, which is a terrifying prospect for every Premier League center back. Haaland will be the focal point of a resurgent and rampant Manchester City.
