Eddie Howe and his coaching staff were afforded some much-needed breathing room after a demoralizing 3-1 defeat to Brentford left them toiling in 14th place.

But it’s unlikely that Newcastle hatched up a plan good enough to topple a Man City side fresh off of a 3-0 win over Liverpool before the break.

I’m banking on Pep Guardiola’s second-placed squad to score Over 1.5 goals against Newcastle United, based on Man City’s recent form and historic dominance in this fixture.

While St. James’ Park hasn’t been an easy place to play for visitors in recent years, Man City have averaged around 2.8 Premier League goals per game at Newcastle’s ground, where they’ve won three and drawn three times in six trips since 2019.

Considering how poorly Newcastle’s defense was in their last two games at Brentford and West Ham, there should be plenty of opportunities for City’s stars to score. Erling Haaland needs just one more goal to reach 100 Premier League goals.

Jeremy Doku, like six of his teammates, only has one goal this season, but I like the Belgian winger’s chances of taking the scoring limelight away from Haaland this weekend at St. James’ Park.

Failing that, Doku can add to his team-leading three Premier League assists if he can get a cross anywhere near where Haaland roams about in the box (as our Premier League Matchweek 12 predictions call for). A $10 bet would net a profit of $17 at FanDuel.
