theScore Bet Missouri betting app 🏀

theScore Bet is just the old ESPN BET app, but reskinned with new branding. ESPN had long been a premier name in sports broadcasting, but unfortunately, that name recognition wasn't enough to sustain the ESPN BET sportsbook.

On Nov. 6, operator PENN Entertainment announced that it would terminate its partnership with ESPN and shut down ESPN BET on Dec. 1, the same day that Missouri sports betting went live.

April 2026

-DraftKings drops its welcome promo to $100 in Bonus Bets after any first wager of $5 or more, win or lose. 

-A potential bill that would have increased the tax on sports betting platforms in Missouri has stalled. The current rate is capped at 10%, but the proposed legislation could have raised it to 34%. 

-DraftKings and FanDuel launch nearly identical sportsbook welcome bonuses in Missouri. DraftKings now has a 'bet $5, get $300 in bonus bets if you win' promo, while FanDuel has a 'bet $5, get $250 in bonus bets if you win' offer.

-The launch of legal sports betting in Missouri has had a dramatic impact on neighboring states. Both Kansas and Illinois reported year-on-year declines in betting handle after the Missouri betting market went live. 

-Missouri sportsbooks saw a significant month-to-month drop in both betting handle and gross revenue in February 2026. The handle was only $277 million (down 27.2%), generating $31.3 million in gross revenue (down 42%). 

March 2026

-Circa CEO Derek Stevens says the company is pleased with the steady betting growth it's seen in Missouri, despite being the lowest-grossing legal sportsbook in the state. 

-Missouri residents can legally bet on the March Madness tournament for the first time since legalized sports betting was introduced back in December. 

-Missouri sportsbooks generated $380.4 million in handle in January 2026, down from $538.9 million in December 2025. FanDuel and DraftKings lead the way, combining for 73% of the total handle ($270.1 million), with bet365 a distant third ($34 million).

• 2018: Months before the US Supreme Court strikes down PAPSA, former Rep. Bar Korman introduces HB2320, allowing riverboat casinos and DFS operators to add sports betting to their list of services.
• 2016: Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signs HB 1941 into law, allowing daily fantasy contests in the state.

Missouri sports betting laws, explained

Sports betting in Missouri is regulated by the Missouri Gaming Commission, which also oversees riverboat casinos, charitable bingo, and fantasy sports contests.

Now that sports betting has gone live, people over 21 who are physically located within state lines can legally place bets. This is an important distinction, as it means you don’t need to be a Missouri resident to access sports betting in the state. In addition to online sports betting, you can place bets at physical retail locations and special districts located near Missouri’s professional sports stadiums.

In terms of taxes, the MGC has set the tax rate for legal sports betting at 10% of sports betting revenue, which is well below the national average of 19% that sportsbooks paid in 2024. While sports bettors don’t have to worry about these taxes, which are paid by legal sportsbooks, you do have to pay federal taxes on winnings of $5,000 or more, at a 24% tax rate.
