The NHL's opening night features a Metropolitan Division matchup, and I'm offering my three best Penguins vs. Rangers player props for the showdown in New York City.

My NHL picks like Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry to have a busy night while also backing Sidney Crosby to find the back of the net.

The New York Rangers are a -225 betting favorite to beat the rival Penguins at home tonight. Puck drop is at 8 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden (ESPN). Don't miss our Gary Pearson's NHL player props today for more action on opening night.

💰 Best player prop bets for Penguins vs. Rangers

Our NHL player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.

⬆️ Tristan Jarry Over 25.5 saves (-113) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It was a season to forget for Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry last year. He was sent down to the AHL on two separate occasions due to poor play and went unclaimed on waivers in January.

However, Jarry looked much better when he returned to the Penguins at the end of last season, and I think new head coach Dan Muse gives him a long leash in the season opener even if he struggles.

The Pittsburgh bench boss is giving Jarry the starting nod to begin the campaign for a reason and will want to inspire confidence in his hopeful No. 1 netminder.

And Jarry should be busy between the pipes, as the Penguins' defense looks like it could be a weakness once again in 2025-26, especially against a Rangers squad that averaged 28.59 shots on goal last season.

Caesars has the best odds for this prop at -113, which translate to an implied probability of 53.05%. If Jarry saves at least 26 shots, a $10 bet would result in a $8.85 profit.

🔥 Sidney Crosby to score a goal (+190) ⭐⭐⭐

New York gave up the eighth-most goals to centers last season (1.40 per game), and there still aren't many better at filling up the score sheet than No. 87.

While still an elite facilitator, Sidney Crosby has shown that he will look for his own shot when his team most needs a goal - such as when the Penguins trail, which could be a good portion of the game given the -225 moneyline odds on the Rangers to win tonight.

Crosby will need to carry the load offensively for a Penguins team that will likely be overmatched, and we're betting on him to beat Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin at least once.

Our best option is +190 at FanDuel, which translates to an implied probability of 34.48% with a $10 wager netting a $19 profit.

⬆️ Mika Zibanejad Over 2.5 shots (+110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mika Zibanejad had his lowest goal total last year (20) since his first season in New York in 2016-17. I think he looks to bounce back early this season by coming out firing on opening night at home.

The Penguins gave up the fourth-most shots against last season (30.12 per game). With new Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan moving Zibanejad from center to right wing to pair with J.T. Miller, the Swede will have plenty of opportunities to drive the scoring chances on New York's top line.

We're heading to DraftKings for the best odds on this player prop. At +110, a successful $10 bet would net an $11 profit with an implied probability of 47.62%.
