The Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers face off Monday in a matchup of two high-scoring teams. Here's sports betting analyst Scott Cullen's top NHL pick based on the best NHL odds.

Both the Oilers and the Sabres offer an exciting brand of hockey that also contributes to inconsistent results.

Coming off a 7-5 loss at Winnipeg on Saturday, the Oilers are 5-4-4 in their past 13 games. They hold the first wild card position in the Western Conference with 76 points in 64 games.

The Sabres earned a 5-3 win against Tampa Bay on Saturday, climbing to within three points of a playoff spot, but they are a similarly mediocre 6-6-1 in the past 13 games.

Here is our best Oilers vs. Sabres NHL pick (odds via Caesars; pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Oilers vs. Sabres pick

Over 7 (-120 via Caesars)

Fireworks should fly when the Oilers and Sabres hit the ice.

Rocket Richard odds favorite Connor McDavid leads the league with 52 goals and, along with Leon Draisaitl, drives the league's best power play. Edmonton is averaging 3.84 goals per 60 minutes overall, which is also tops in the NHL.

Buffalo is not far behind, averaging 3.71 goals per 60 minutes (third overall).

While these two teams have been an Over bettor's dream for most of the season, they've been even more goal-happy of late.

The Oilers have hit a total of 7+ goals in 10 of their past 12 games, averaging 4.49 goals for and 3.92 goals against per 60 minutes. That 8.41 goals-per-60 rate is the highest in the league.

The story is similar for the Sabres. Behind center Tage Thompson, who ranks third in the NHL with 42 goals, Buffalo has hit a total of seven or more in nine of its past 11 games, scoring 3.90 goals and allowing 4.35 goals per 60 minutes over that span.

Neither team has established enough consistency in terms of wins and losses, but they have both shown that they are willing to trade goals. In this case, that should result in plenty of chances in both directions.
