The New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes clash tonight in a marquee matchup between two of the Eastern Conference’s top Stanley Cup hopefuls. My NHL picks include three Devils vs. Hurricanes player props, projecting strong offensive showings on both sides.

The Hurricanes are the -160 moneyline betting favorite ahead of puck drop from Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C., at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). I’m backing Overs on two Hurricanes, including Nikolaj Ehlers in his Carolina debut, while also expecting a strong performance from New Jersey’s Jesper Bratt.

💰 Best player prop bets for Devils vs. Hurricanes

Our NHL player prop odds tool shows the best odds for every market across legal sportsbooks in your area.

⬆️  Nikolaj Ehlers Over 2.5 shots (-115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Although Ehlers averaged just 2.52 shots on goal last year, he’s happy to shoot the puck. In fact, he attempted nearly 19 shots per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play last season per Moneypuck, easily the most on the Winnipeg Jets.

Now that he’s in Carolina and projected to play on the Canes’ top line, Ehlers will see more minutes of 5-on-5 play and may also get increased power-play time. Those additional opportunities should be apparent right away as Ehlers tries to live up to expectations after inking a six-year contract this summer.

BetMGM and bet365 both offered -115 odds on Ehlers Over 2.5 shots, while several of the other best sports betting sites priced this prop in the -120 to -125 range. A $10 bet at BetMGM or bet365 pays $8.70 profit with an implied probability of 53.5%.

🔥 Seth Jarvis to score a goal (+180) ⭐⭐⭐

Big things are expected this year from the 23-year-old Jarvis, who put up 32 goals and 67 points in 73 games despite playing through a shoulder injury for most of the season. He’s also coming off an excellent playoff showing, collecting 16 points in 15 postseason contests.

The addition of Ehlers provides even more reason for optimism. Per The Athletic, Jarvis and Sebastian Aho controlled 66% of expected goal share in their limited time with trade deadline acquisition Jake Guentzel last year, and they also created more opportunities alongside Mikko Rantanen. Ehlers might not be the caliber of Guentzel or Rantanen, but his skill and speed could still bring the best out of Jarvis and Aho.

Some of the best sports betting apps are pricing a Jarvis goal in the +150 range, but DraftKings, BetMGM, and FanDuel are paying +180, implying just a 35.7% chance that Jarvis dents the twine. I project his chances to be closer to 40%, leaving plenty of value to take a shot at an $18 return on a $10 wager.

🔥 Jesper Bratt anytime goal (+280) ⭐⭐

Bratt proved last season that he can still put up numbers without Jack Hughes at his side, collecting 20 points in 19 games that Hughes wasn’t in the lineup. However, most of that damage was done as a setup man as 16 of those 20 points came on assists.

Now that Bratt is reunited with Hughes to start the season, I’m expecting him to play a finishing role once again. He scored 21 goals in the 62 games that Hughes played last year, a 0.33 goal-per-game clip that aligns with his career average when playing with his top center.

FanDuel and BetMGM are both offering +280 odds on Bratt to score a goal in the Devils’ season opener, implying a 26.3% probability. A winning $10 wager would net us $28.
