The New Jersey Devils hit the road to face the Washington Capitals on Wednesday in their first game of 2024, and we have you covered with our best Devils vs. Capitals NHL player props based on the best NHL odds.

After a tough finish to 2023, the New Jersey Devils (19-14-2) hit the road Wednesday to face the Washington Capitals (18-11-6) in a matchup between middling Metropolitan Conference foes in one of two NHL games on the schedule.

The Devils had won three in a row in late December before falling 5-2 to the Boston Bruins on Dec. 30 in their final game of the 2023 calendar year. Meanwhile, the Capitals had lost four straight before besting the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, in their first game of 2024. Now they'll play host to the Devils to kick off a five-game homestand over the next 10 days.

Here are our best Devils vs. Capitals NHL player props and NHL picks (odds via our best NHL betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Devils vs. Capitals NHL player props

Nico Hischier Over 0.5 power-play points (+270 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My top pick for this tilt concerns the Devils' top-ranked power play unit, where captain Nico Hischier plays valuable minutes.

While Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt have been the top pair in terms of power-play points for New Jersey this year, their props are priced accordingly. Hughes checks in at +135, with Bratt at +185.

Hischier has taken a more active role on the Devils' power play of late, with three man-advantage points in his last eight games. That includes his third power-play goal of the season vs. the Bruins when last seen.

The Capitals' penalty kill is 15th in the NHL since Thanksgiving (80.3%), so there's plenty of room for this lethal New Jersey power play to score at least once if not twice vs. a tired Washington squad, boosting the chances that Hischier cashes this Over.

The prop is priced at +270 at both DraftKings and bet365, better than the +260 offered by FanDuel.

Evgeny Kuznetsov Under 0.5 points (-122 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I gave out this exact prop on Tuesday night, and it hit at -145. I'll go right back to the well at an even better price.

Evgeny Kuznetsov is mired in a 10-game point-scoring drought at the moment. His saw his time-on-ice take a precipitous drop from 20:51 in November to 17:05 in December while averaging just one shot on goal across 12 games, and his January debut wasn't all that encouraging. Kuznetsov played just over 20 minutes on Tuesday but had only two shots on net as he failed to find the scoresheet yet again.

The line on the Under may have moved the way it did due to the Devils ranking 28th in goals allowed per game this season, but the books don't appear to be factoring in how tired the Caps' legs will be after playing in Pittsburgh just last night.

BetRivers has the best price across our best sports betting apps for those wishing to fade Kuznetsov again, with DraftKings next-best at -135.

Tom Wilson Under 2.5 shots on goal (-143 via BetRivers) ⭐⭐⭐

The Capitals have struggled to generate shots on net all season, and Tom Wilson has not been immune. With his shot output trending downward, oddsmakers have adjusted this line and look close to bringing it down to 1.5. Let's jump in at acceptable odds on the Under 2.5 before it's too late.

Wilson, who has 99 shots on the year, has gone below this prop in four straight games and six of his last eight. Despite trailing only Alex Ovechkin for the Capitals team lead in shots, he's gone below 2.5 in 20 of 35 games this season. Clearly, it's feast-or-famine for Wilson, only with many of the latter in recent contests.

Despite their troubles in net, the Devils are eighth in the NHL in shot prevention and sixth since Thanksgiving. I wouldn't count on Wilson busting out of his slump in this spot.

BetRivers leads this side of the market at our best sports betting sites by a wide margin, with FanDuel next at -164.
