My best Steelers vs. Chargers prediction for the 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock) Sunday Night Football game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., focuses on the Steelers’ ability to force turnovers. The Chargers are favored by 2.5 points, but the Steelers have a legitimate chance to win this game.

With both teams entering Sunday with just three losses, this game could have huge playoff implications. For more about this contest and the entire weekend slate, check out our NFL Week 10 predictions.

🏈 Sunday Night Football preview & score prediction

The Steelers’ offense ranks 28th in total yards, 21st in passing yards, and 30th in rushing yards, and yet, the Steelers are averaging 25.3 points per game. This is thanks to a defense that has forced 16 turnovers this season, and a red zone offense that ranks seventh-best in the league (68%).

Defensively, the Steelers are also struggling. They rank 30th in total yards allowed, 32nd in pass defense, and 21st in scoring defense.

Chargers’ turnovers allow the Steelers to spring the upset

With the Chargers entering this game with the league’s fifth-most productive offense and the sixth-best passing attack, you’d think they’d have a clear advantage. But the Chargers are averaging just 23.9 points per game, as the offense is converting just 50% of its red zone opportunities into touchdowns.

Both of these teams rank in the top seven in the league in red zone defense, so I expect plenty of drives to stall. Therefore, the difference in this game will be turnovers. While the Steelers have a turnover differential of +9, the Chargers are -4.

FanDuel’s price of -105 implies a 51.22% chance the Steelers cover. A $10 bet would profit $9.52.

Our Gary Pearson also sided with Pittsburgh in his early Steelers vs. Chargers prediction.

Score prediction: Steelers 21, Chargers 20

🆚 Key matchup to watch on SNF

Justin Herbert vs. Steelers’ secondary

The Steelers are allowing a league-worst 278.3 passing yards per game. With Herbert and the Chargers averaging 250.6 per contest, it’s clear that the Chargers have an advantage in this matchup.

However, the Steelers have made up for their defensive struggles by forcing 16 turnovers, the second-most in the league. They have eight interceptions this season, and Herbert enters this game having already thrown eight of his own.

Herbert has at least one pick in three consecutive games and six of his last seven, so it’s shocking to see BetMGM’s price set at +100 for him to throw an interception on Sunday night. The price implies a 50% chance that Herbert throws a pick. A $10 bet would profit $10.

Best prop bet: Justin Herbert Over 0.5 interceptions (+100 via BetMGM)
