🏇 Kentucky Derby weather: Betting impact and track conditions
There are near-pristine conditions for a Saturday evening in Louisville at Churchill Downs. The forecasted temperature of about 55 degrees at post time is mild, giving the horses the fast and dry track desired, and the crowd enough coolness so those extravagant hats don't get too sweaty.
The likes of Renegade and Commandment will be looking to capitalize. But the dry track could elevate the Kentucky Derby long shots and give them an opportunity, including Golden Tempo.

Kentucky Derby weather impact
- Cool and dry. The weather early in the day matters even more than the conditions right at post time, and we're getting much of the same. It'll be a cooler morning with a low of 43 degrees, with the temperature rising to a high of 59 before falling a little just prior to the race beginning.
- Little chance of wetness to slow down contenders. While some cloudiness is expected, that will be of benefit too while keeping the temperature on the cool side, and mild at most. The chance of those clouds bringing rain and sloppiness to the track are minimal and rest at 20%. The horses, including the top options in the Kentucky Derby odds and positions, will be free to roam in dry dirt, without the interference of muck.
- Dryness leading up to the race, too. The conditions around Churchhill downs have been similar today, with a high of 59 degrees and the same chance of precipitation. There's a higher chance of rain tomorrow afternoon around 1 p.m. ET, but it's forecasted to be only a trace and not enough to make an impact.
