The NBA is awaiting the return of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who suffered a calf strain in late January. Below, we will look at when Giannis will be back and return to the court for the Bucks. We will also dive into Giannis MVP odds and Bucks betting odds.
When will Giannis be back and return to Bucks?
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said on Feb. 6 that Giannis was getting close to a return.
“He’s going to play when he’s healthy,” Rivers said. “We just got to make sure he’s healthy. He’s getting close. He’s working out. He looks good. So I would say hopefully sooner than later.”
The Bucks’ superstar gave himself a recovery timeline of four-to-six weeks after suffering the injury on Jan. 23. Giannis appears to be on the speedier side of that timeline, so a return by the end of February is certainly not out of the question.
Four weeks from the date of the injury would be Feb. 20.
Here is a look at the Bucks’ schedule around that time.
- Friday, Feb. 20: Bucks at Pelicans
- Sunday, Feb. 22: Raptors at Bucks
- Tuesday, Feb. 24: Heat at Bucks
- Wednesday, Feb. 25: Cavaliers at Bucks
- Friday, Feb. 27: Knicks at Bucks
- Sunday, March 1: Bucks at Bulls
Will Giannis play in the NBA All-Star Game?
No. Giannis will not play in this year’s NBA All-Star Game due to his injury. He was replaced in the game by San Antonio Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox.
Giannis was set to play for the World All-Stars. Fox will play for the USA roster, while Miami’s Norman Powell will move from the USA roster to the World roster. Powell has ties to Jamaica.
How long will Giannis be out for?
Giannis suffered what is believed to be a mild calf strain. Athletes can recover from this sort of injury as quickly as one week, but as long as six weeks.
If the injury occurred during the playoffs, one can bet that Giannis and the Bucks would have more of a sense of urgency regarding his return.
The Greek Freak was also being shopped by the Bucks around the time of the NBA trade deadline, so there was little incentive to rush him back earlier this month.
Giannis MVP odds
Giannis is no longer on NBA MVP odds boards as he has already missed too many games to qualify for a postseason award. You must play in 65 of 82 games to qualify for MVP and other postseason awards.
The Bucks’ superstar has already missed 23 games this season.
Bucks betting odds
Milwaukee has a very interesting win total projection at the best NBA betting sites. The Bucks are 23-30 on the season but there are hopes that with Giannis returning soon, Milwaukee can go on a hot streak.
The Bucks’ win total is currently set at 33.5 with the Over juiced at -170.
The Bucks are +1400 to make the NBA Playoffs. They are a whopping +100000 when it comes to NBA title odds.
