Anthony Davis remains a double-double machine at 32-years-old, as he is consistently a threat to go over 20 points and 10 rebounds each game. Davis’ 2025-26 season has been derailed, however, due to ligament damage in his left hand. The question fantasy basketball managers and Washington Wizards fans are now asking is when will Davis return and be back on the court. Below, we will dish out an injury update on Davis and look at his fantasy stock.
🔙 When will Anthony Davis be back and return to play?
Davis was traded to the Wizards on Feb. 5. He has not yet played a game for Washington.
Davis injured his hand while a member of the Mavericks, back on Jan. 10. It is believed that Davis suffered a mild hand injury that typically takes 3-6 weeks to recover from.
AD has already surpassed that timeline as he was injured seven weeks ago.
If the Wizards were in a playoff race it is likely that Davis would already be back in action. But since Washington is an abysmal 16-42 on the season, there is little incentive for Davis to come back until he is 100 percent.
🏀 Is Anthony Davis out for the season?
It is likely, but not certain, that Davis will play again this season. Davis is expected to be “re-evaluated” next week.
Davis took issue with the idea that he was “done” for the season at the time of the injury. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported at that time that Davis was set to undergo surgery to repair the ligament damage, and that Davis would miss “several months.”
AD responded on “X” by saying, “Y’all better stop listening to all these lies on these apps!”
Of course, this was before Davis was traded from the Mavericks to the Wizards.
Nonetheless, we project that Davis will play again this season, within the next month or so. Here are some potential dates in which we could see the return of AD.
- Monday, March 16: Golden State Warriors at Washington Wizards
- Tuesday, March 17: Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards
- Thursday, March 19: Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards
- Saturday, March 21: Oklahoma City Thunder at Washington Wizards
📊 Anthony Davis fantasy impact
Davis is still owned in 88 percent of Yahoo! fantasy basketball leagues despite the injury. When healthy, Davis is still one of the top fantasy basketball players.
A double-double machine, Davis went in Round 1 of most standard fantasy drafts this past fall.
In 20 games played with the Mavs this season, Davis scored 20.4 ppg and pulled down 11.1 rpg.
