Minnesota and New York meet for a second time this week, and my Liberty vs. Lynx predictions back the hosts to cover the spread.
Minnesota is a 1-point betting favorite at the best sports betting sites, with a total set at O/U 166.5 points. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (CBS) this afternoon from Target Center in Minneapolis.
This matchup sees the two top WNBA championship odds square off for the second time in a week. The Lynx beat the Liberty by eight points in Brooklyn, N.Y., last Sunday in the most recent WNBA Finals rematch.

Although both Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are out, Minnesota has handled the loss of its star far better than New York. In three games without Collier, the Lynx are 3-0, which includes beating the Liberty by 12 points this past Sunday. Meanwhile, New York is just 4-6 (including the loss to the Los Angeles Sparks which Stewart got hurt) without the two-time MVP. Minnesota's defense should ultimately be the difference against New York, which is why I have Cheryl Reeve's team winning 83-77 as part of my Liberty vs. Lynx predictions.

No Collier? No problem. In three games since the MVP favorite went down with an ankle injury, the Lynx are undefeated and have won all three games by at least four points. They have the second-best against-the-spread record in the W this season (19-12-1) and have a 16-1 win-loss record at home ... and they've had no problem handling business against the Liberty after New York beat them in last year's WNBA Finals.
In two games against the Liberty - both Lynx wins - Minnesota is outscoring New York 183 to 164. The Liberty's recent defensive issues should be a problem again in this matchup, with Sandy Brondello's squad ranking in the bottom half of the league in both 3-pointers (8.5) and 2-pointers allowed per game (21.5). Even without Collier, the Lynx's No. 1-rated offense - first in points per game (87.0) and offensive rating (112.6) - can take advantage behind the play of Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, and DiJonai Carrington.
Defensively, no team is better equipped to slow the Liberty down than the Lynx. New York's offense is still lethal without Stewart thanks to Sabrina Ionescu, but Minnesota's defense is even better. It's No. 1 in points allowed (75.6) and defensive rating (97.9). Alanna Smith (2.4), Williams (2.1), Bridget Carleton (1.6), and McBride (1.4) are all top 18 in the WNBA in defensive win shares.

The rich got richer when Minnesota bolstered its ridiculous depth even further when it traded for Carrington from the Dallas Wings. Last year's Most Improved Player winner has given the Lynx an explosive sixth option off the bench, and in all three games she's suited up for Minnesota, she's gone Over 11.5 points while averaging 13.3.
With Collier still out, I expect Carrington to continue seeing serious minutes off the bench, which is why these plus-money odds are a great value. I'd play this prop with odds as short as -110.
