Oscar Piastri, featured in my Qatar Grand Prix best bets and odds, has enjoyed a dream start to the festivities at the Lusail International Circuit.

The Aussie driver is winless in seven races but swept the four pre-race events at the Qatar Grand Prix and is the massive -225 betting favorite to take the checkered flag today (11 a.m. ET, ESPN). Teammate Lando Norris will start beside Piastri on the front grid, while Max Verstappen, also featured in the picks below, has the third-shortest odds.

🔮 Qatar Grand Prix predictions, expert picks & best bets

Here are my Qatar Grand Prix best bets for Sunday's race at Lusail International Circuit.

Editor's note: Picks made before sprint race and qualifying.

Pick to win Qatar Grand Prix: Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐

We've been here before countless times, with Verstappen bemoaning how his car felt in the pre-race events.

His sixth-place finish in sprint qualifying reflected his discomfort. While concern for Sunday's race is in the forefront, we're talking about a driver who has enjoyed the most symbiotic relationship with his car in the last two months.

He has won four of the previous seven races and is the defending champion at Lusail International Circuit. I backed him earlier in the week when covering the Qatar Grand Prix odds and favorites, and despite his struggles in sprint qualifying, I'm not deviating.

His success at this track and in the previous two months provides enough confidence that the team will make the necessary adjustments for Verstappen to win a third straight in the desert.

His winning odds range from +165 to +190, with Caesars offering the latter. Those odds represent a 34.48% probability, and a winning $10 bet will profit $19.

Best odds: +190 via Caesars

Best value bet to win Qatar Grand Prix: Oscar Piastri ⭐⭐⭐

That's what I needed to see from Piastri to jump back on board his MCL39 for the penultimate race. Piastri took first in FP1 and doubled down in sprint qualifying, finishing with the fastest time to take pole position in Saturday morning's sprint race.

The Australian hasn't won a race since August in Holland, seeing his once 34-point lead over Norris turn into a 24-point deficit.

However, Piastri is as comfortable as he is confident in Qatar, where he placed second in 2023 and third in 2024. He hasn't finished behind Norris at Lusail International Circuit, something I expect to continue after seeing him tackle the course with aplomb on Friday.

I still expect Norris to secure his first championship this weekend, but a win in this race would be a nice consolation for Piastri. The Aussie's +340 odds are one of the best things about this pick as it will profit $34 on a winning $10 bet.

Best odds: +340 via FanDuel

Best long shot to win Qatar Grand Prix: George Russell ⭐⭐

Russell finished second last week in Sin City and conjured the second-fastest time behind Piastri in sprint qualifying. The Mercedes driver has represented the best long-shot pick for most of the season, yielding to Charles Leclerc on occasion.

The Brit is the only driver outside of the triumvirate atop the Drivers' Standings to win a race this season. And while I don't give him much of a chance in Qatar, he is the only driver besides Piastri, Verstappen, and Norris I feel can get the job done.

DraftKings' +1400 odds imply a 6.67% win probability, which accurately reflects his on-track chances.

Of the best sports betting sites, DraftKings provides the best value (+1400). If he pulls off the mammoth upset, a $10 bet would result in a $140 profit.

Best odds: +1400 via DraftKings
