He quickly ascended from long shot to favorite after finishing with the quickest time in P1 and P2, the latter of which offers a more accurate representation of how I expect things to pan out on Sunday.

Leclerc won last year's Monaco Grand Prix and looks at home when driving on the Circuit de Monaco.

That's probably because he is at home. Hailing from the city-state principality, Leclerc morphs into a different beast for the season's crown jewel in his own backyard. The challenging nature of the circuit and slower average speed also aligns with Leclerc's first win of the season.

Verstappen looked good in P1, finishing with the second-fastest time. He dropped off significantly in P2, finishing in 10th. However, Red Bull tinkered and experimented, trying to find a better balance in the car. The adjustments hampered the Dutchman's performance in P2, and this is what he said about the session:

"I think we just overdid it a little bit, so then I just couldn’t really attack the corners anymore how I would like, then you’re just shedding a lot of pace, and the lap time was basically not coming out of it.”

Will the Monaco Grand Prix represent the turning point of Ferrari's season? Probably not. While much more needs to happen over an extended period to make that declaration, both Hamilton and Leclerc finished among the top three in P2 for the first time.

Various factors, including the driver's confidence level in Monte Carlo, are responsible.

Hamilton won three races at Circuit de Monaco, the last in 2019. The track's difficulty level and overall nature of the course, where overtaking is almost as challenging as landing a ticket to this event, make Hamilton winning a much more feasible outcome. The event's rule change, making two pit stops mandatory, should also help Hamilton's cause, as it will further enhance parity.
