With Zach Collaros back from suspension for the Bombers, can the Lions survive at home without Nathan Rourke?

The BC Lions hope to stay afloat without Nathan Rourke as they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET (TSN, CTV, CBSSN) from BC Place in Vancouver. With Winnipeg getting Zach Collaros back to bolster their Grey Cup odds, our Blue Bombers vs. Lions prediction is all over Mike O'Shea's squad.

Although the Lions are listing Rourke, who had been the CFL Most Outstanding Player odds favorite, as a game-time decision, it seems unlikely he'll be anything more than the third-string QB if he suits up. BC is slated to start 36-year-old Jeremiah Masoli, who has missed substantial time due to injuries dating back to 2019.

The former franchise QB for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats could be in for a rough outing against a top-notch Winnipeg defense. And even with the Bombers down Brady Oliveira, they've found a potential Canadian star in Matthew Peterson, who can pull this road win out alongside Collaros. Last week, when these two played, Winnipeg won 34-20, and I have them taking it 24-17 this time around.

Masoli was once a dynamic CFL QB, but at his age and after all of those injuries, can he really be trusted to start for an extended period of time? He was Chip Kelly's first starting quarterback at Oregon; he's not a young man. So, having to play the buzzsaw that is the Bombers' defense cannot be a fun time.

The ageless Willie Jefferson leads a unit that allowed the fewest points (20.3) and yards per game (329.7) in the league last season, and it gave up just 20 last week against BC. With Rourke out, the Lions will have an even tougher time scoring this week. Meanwhile, the Bombers get their QB1 back.

Collaros missed last week due to suspension, but backup Chris Streveler cooked BC in his absence. So the two-time CFL MOP shouldn't have any issues scoring, even with Oliveira out. In fact, Winnipeg has a new back to lean on in Peterson.

👀 Star player prop to watch

Matthew Peterson Over 48.5 rushing yards ⭐⭐⭐⭐

📊 Best odds: -125 via DraftKings ($10 pays $8)

Coming off the bench last week for the injured Oliveira, it didn't take long to recognize that Winnipeg may have something in Peterson. The Canadian ran for over 3,000 yards in his career at the University of Alberta, and in his CFL debut, he popped off for 130 rushing yards.

The Bombers weren't afraid to feed the 24-year-old, who finished with 23 carries, and if he has even half that workload again he can hit 49 yards on the ground. The Lions allowed 97.9 rushing yards per game last season, and that number is up at 104.5 this season.
