LSU vs. Dallas Baptist predictions, expert picks & best bets

LSU and Dallas Baptist are slated to put on a show for baseball fans as they square off in a top-25 midweek matchup. The two sides are a combined 13-2 to start the season, racking up 145 runs in the process. While the Tigers are rated higher, they showed vulnerability over the weekend. Can the Patriots capitalize?

Jay Johnson's squad has more experience in ranked contests and a more talented lineup overall, which is why we predict LSU will pick up its best win of the early season and hand Dallas Baptist its second loss of the campaign.

πŸ† Pick to win LSU vs. Dallas Baptist: LSU (-200 via DraftKings) ββββ

This isn't your stereotypical midweek contest, as we alluded to earlier. LSU has played only a handful of ranked teams in one-off games over the last few seasons. However, the Tigers have been superb in midweek non-conference games since Johnson took over in 2022. LSU is 34-6 overall in these contests under the current coach, including 2-0 this season.

A mix of seasoned experience and youthful potential, the Bayou Bengals' lineup is a nightmare for opposing pitchers. Five of LSU's regular starters are hitting .333 or better, led by freshman Derek Curiel, whose batting average sits at .414. As a team, the Tigers are striking out in just 16.21% of at-bats.

Neither team has faced a gauntlet on their schedule, but the College World Series odds favorite is making much more of its opportunities than Dallas Baptist.

The Patriots have managed to keep pace with the Tigers offensively (67 to 78), but the pitching advantage points in LSU's direction heavily. Johnson's pitchers have given up just 14 runs to Dan Heefner's squad's 29 at this stage. The former has also played one more game.

Every sign points toward a Tigers victory, and it's hard to ignore those trends. LSU simply has more depth as one of the sport's titans, as well as a major pitching advantage. We'll side with the Bayou Bengals in this showdown for those reasons. A $10 winning wager on LSU returns just $5 in profit at DraftKings.

πŸ’ͺ LSU vs. Dallas Baptist pitching matchup

  • LSU: Conner Ware (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
  • Dallas Baptist: Ryan Borberg (0-0, 3.00 ERA)

Conner Ware is making his second start for LSU after coming over from Pearl River Community College before the 2025 campaign. Johnson turns to the left-handed junior to try to pick up a statement midweek victory after a stellar first outing.

Ware tossed three no-hit innings in the Tigers' 13-1 seven-inning run rule of Southern on Feb. 18. He did enough to earn the win in that matchup, leaving the mound with a 3-0 lead after striking out a pair. The 6-foot-4 lefty has nasty stuff, and he'll look to display it against a stronger opponent in this matchup.

Dallas Baptist's starter, Borberg, also featured on Feb. 18. However, he pitched in a different capacity, coming out of the bullpen to stop the bleeding against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).

Borberg threw three innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, and no walks as he sat down four Vaqueros hitters. The junior right-hander was the Patriots' best pitcher on the afternoon as Dallas Baptist lost its lone game this season, 15-5.

Borberg returns to Globe Life Field for the second time in as many weeks for an appearance, this time against one of the nation's most stacked lineups.
