There are plenty of the usual suspects when you scroll through the MLB hard-hit percentage leaders, via Baseball Savant, including Shohei Ohtani unsurprisingly leading at 62.3%. But then just a few slots down there's Kirk in fifth at 56.5, ahead of even Aaron Judge.
Kirk has been putting a mediocre offensive season far behind him, with a skyrocketing OPS (from .677 last year to .807 now) and batting average (from .253 to .323). He's been smouldering hot recently too while posting a 1.228 OPS in June, with six extra-base hits and three outings featuring three-plus hits. The catcher has homered in two straight games as well.
Now the right-handed hitter gets to face a lefty in the Cardinals' Matthew Liberatore. The southpaw has been reasonably effective overall this season with his 3.82 ERA, but his .828 career OPS allowed against righties is far higher than the .555 when facing a lefty.
