Scheffler slipped to a T-3 finish last week in Memphis, Tenn., but maintains more than a 2,000-point lead over Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun in the FedEx Cup standings. His short game was an unexpected weakness last week, but his driver, irons, and putter remained among the best in the field for the first playoff event.
It should be noted he was without caddie Ted Scott for the final round of the tournament. It's unknown if Scott will return for the BMW Championship.
Scheffler tied for 22nd (14-under) the last time the BMW Championship was held at Caves Valley Golf Club. I don't love the course as a fit for the No. 1 golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), as it requires long drives and a sharp short game that Scheffler was missing this past week.

McIlroy finished fourth the last time the BMW Championship was played at Caves Valley Golf Club. His short game has been strong over his last 12 measured rounds (0.41 strokes gained: around-the-green per round), and he's been the longest driver in this field over that same span.
