After finishing 5-7 last year following a trip to a national championship game, TCU aims to begin a bounce-back campaign when it travels to face Stanford on Friday at 10:30 p.m. ET as we offer our TCU vs. Stanford player props.

This line doesn’t make sense to me. Hoover stepped in as TCU’s starting quarterback in October, averaging 339.5 passing yards per game over the final six contests. He cleared this line in five of those six outings.

After an entire offseason of being the QB1, Hoover will begin the 2024 campaign with a matchup against the worst passing defense in the league. Stanford returns a lot, but this defense gave up 299.7 passing yards per game last year.

FanDuel opened this line at 267.5 before the market pushed it up nearly 10 yards within 15 hours. I’m jumping on this Over for a five-star play, as I project more than 300 yards in what should be a high-scoring affair late Friday night.

Josh Hoover 325-plus passing yards (+250) ⭐⭐⭐

Bettors should explore the alternate prop markets and best sportsbook promos when betting on college football player props, especially early in the season when oddsmakers are just as uncertain about expected roles.

In this case, I could take DraftKings' +135 value on 300-plus passing yards for Hoover. But the +250 offering on 325-plus passing yards offers a more significant edge.

Hoover threw for 325 or more yards in four of his final six starts last year. More importantly, I project him to flirt with 320 yards in Week 1 and believe he has more than a 40% chance of cashing this prop - well above what these odds imply.

JP Richardson Over 40.5 receiving yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If Hoover throws for this much, a receiver will have to benefit. Savion Williams is the top choice, and our best sportsbooks know it by listing his receiving prop at 59.5.

But the Horned Frogs rotate their receivers quite a bit, so I prefer Richardson’s chances of exceeding expectations. He cleared this mark five times last year, finishing with 536 yards on 46 catches.

With a projection north of 50 yards, I see solid value in this current number and would play it up to 46.5. Consider Richardson’s alternate market, too, as a $10 bet nets a $13 profit at FanDuel if he finishes with 50-plus yards on Friday.
