Stanford vs. Syrcacuse Prediction, Tonight: Week 4 Picks & Odds

Stanford kicks off its ACC tenure against a Syracuse team that's looked impressive under new head coach Fran Brown. Can the Orange keep it up on Friday night?

It's Stanford's first conference game as a member of the ACC with the Cardinal heading to JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Syracuse on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN).

  • With new head coach Fran Brown thriving, our Stanford vs. Syracuse prediction breaks down why the Orange are in good shape to cover as an 8.5-point favorite at our college football betting sites
  • Syracuse's success can be attributed to former Ohio State QB Kyle McCord, who rise up the Heisman Trophy odds with another strong outing
  • Given how weak the ACC is, if the Orange go to 3-0 with a win they might be a College Football Playoff odds sleeper

In a matchup of two rebuilding programs, our Week 4 college football predictions expect Syracuse's transfer portal talent to flex its muscles.

Stanford vs. Syracuse odds movement

Syracuse opened as a 9.5-point favorite at our college football betting sites. The line has since bounced between -8.5 and -8.5 throughout the week.

The Orange have 52% of the money on them covering, with 48% on Stanford. The Under has 51% of the money, with the total hovering around 57.

Stanford vs. Syracuse against the spread prediction: Week 4

Syracuse to cover the spread: -8.5 (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

Stanford vs. Syracuse opening odds:

Coming off a 31-28 win over Georgia Tech, it appears that Brown has quickly turned Syracuse into a competitive team. A former star recruiter at Georgia, Brown has used the transfer portal to bolster the Orange's roster.

The biggest difference has been Syracuse's offense with McCord, the former Ohio State starter, helping the Orange rank eighth in EPA per dropback.

With McCord and wide receiver Oronde Gadsden II doing their best Donovan McNabb to Marvin Harrison impersonation, the Cardinal are in trouble. Stanford is just 96th in EPA per dropback on defense.

It's not as if Troy Taylor's team can sell out to stop the pass, either. Stanford's defense is 112th in EPA per rush and Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen ranks 20th in the country in rushing yards after contact per carry (4.2), per PFF.

Stanford's offense is as ugly as its tree

It's pretty clear that Stanford has one of the worst offenses in the country. It's putting up the 14th-fewest yards per game among Power 4 teams (361.5) and managed just 286 against a TCU defense that's 56th in SP+.

Outside of Canadian receiver Elic Ayomanor, Stanford's offense lacks for playmakers. It ranks 113th in EPA per rush and 110th in EPA per dropback.

And while the Cardinal would rather throw the ball with Ashton Daniels, the Orange are 37th in EPA per dropback on defense. That's why I'm happily backing Syracuse to cover with a $10 winning bet paying a $9.09 profit.

Stanford vs. Syracuse prop pick for Week 4

Our NEW college football player prop odds tool can help you find the best odds on any market across legal sportsbooks in your area!

Kyle McCord Over 290.5 passing yards (-114) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Between his play to start the season and this line at FanDuel, it's hard to pass on taking the Over on McCord's passing yards. This same prop is -115 or shorter elsewhere with the line at 293.5.

Through two starts with Syracuse, McCord is averaging 367.5 passing yards per game. He's the only QB in the country with an adjusted completion rate above 74%, an ADOT of 10+ yards, and at least six big-time throws.

He should cruise against a Stanford defense that allowed Josh Hoover to throw for 353 yards in the lone P4 game the Cardinal have played.

If McCord throws for Over 290.5 for the third straight game, a $10 bet pays an $8.77 profit.

Best odds: -114 via FanDuel | Implied probability: 53.27%
