Micah Alejado played only one full game as a true freshman last season, but it was a good one - he racked up 469 passing yards against New Mexico.

Though UNM had one of the worst pass defenses in the country last season, there was a handful of teams that gave up more yards per game: Stanford was among them, putting Alejado in a good spot to repeat for a big passing day Saturday.

Stanford’s passing game was one of the weakest in FBS in terms of volume a year ago, averaging less than 180 yards per game through the air.

Hawaii’s defense gave it up on the ground pretty easily, ranking 100th in FBS in run defense. That’s going to be the most likely route for the Cardinal to attack this Rainbow Warriors defense in Week 0. Frank Reich’s philosophy should lend to that approach, too, so we project a low volume day for Ben Gulbranson in his Stanford debut.

Both Stanford and Hawaii saw seven out of 12 games go Under the total last season. The Rainbow Warriors struggled to score efficiently all season long, but it was especially true the last time a Power Four opponent visited the island. Hawaii fell to UCLA in a 16-13 loss last August.

Though Stanford’s situation has changed with Frank Reich at the helm to begin 2025, the offense simply wasn’t explosive last season, either. The Cardinal and Rainbow Warriors averaged a combined 40.9 PPG.
