The University of North Carolina football program has opened with a win total Over/Under of 6.5 following the reported hiring of NFL legend Bill Belichick.

It's not often that the University of North Carolina is the first team to have a win total Over/Under posted by our best college football betting sites, but that's what'll happen when you finalize a deal with Bill Belichick to be your next head coach.

As UNC reportedly finalized a deal with Belichick to take over for the fired Mack Brown, FanDuel opened the Tar Heels' 2025 win total at 6.5, with equal -113 odds on the Over and Under. Belichick takes over a UNC program that went 6-6 this season, good enough to secure a berth in the Fenway Bowl on December 28.

North Carolina went 6-6 this regular season. That was its worst record since the same mark in 2021, also under Brown. The Tar Heels haven't had a 10-win campaign since going 11-3 in 2015 under then-head coach Larry Fedora before losing 49-38 in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

UNC hasn't won a bowl game since the 2019 Military Bowl against Temple (55-13).

Prediction: Over 6.5 (-113)

Belichick was hired early in the transfer portal process, and more and more names will flood the portal as more players opt out of their bowl games. North Carolina is a 3-point favorite in the Fenway Bowl against UConn by the latest bowl game odds.

With UNC going 6-6 this season and with Belichick expected to have plenty of pull in the transfer portal, Over 6.5 is an easy early pick. I'd expect this total to rise by the start of the 2025 college football season.

Bill Belichick, 72, is a six-time Super Bowl winner - all with the New England Patriots and QB Tom Brady - while appearing in two others. He was head coach of the Patriots from 2000-2023 and was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year three times.
