Today's Alabama vs. Tennessee Prediction, Picks & Odds

With the Crimson Tide the marginal favorites, we like the look of Alabama in today's SEC matchup.

A lot has changed in the last two weeks, with both Alabama and Tennessee desperately needing a victory in today's SEC tilt. The game takes place at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

  • Heisman Trophy odds candidate Jalen Milroe should heavily influence today's game, and our Alabama vs. Tennessee prediction expects the Crimson Tide to cover as 3.5-point favorites
  • The Volunteers have plummeted down the College Football Playoff odds this month, from being a minus-odds favorite to falling below the top 10
  • Despite their struggles in the last two weeks, Alabama is just one of five teams with college football championship odds shorter than 10/1

The below picks are part of our Week 8 college football predictions.

Alabama vs. Tennessee against the spread prediction: Week 8

Alabama to cover the spread: -3.5 (-102) ⭐⭐⭐

Alabama vs. Tennessee opening odds:

  • Alabama: -1.5 (-115)
  • Tennessee: +1.5 (-105)

It's funny how similar Alabama's and Tennessee's seasons have gone in October. Both programs entered the month as top-five teams in the AP top 25 before proceeding to lose to unranked SEC opponents.

Then they both followed up their upset losses by nearly losing to unranked SEC teams again. However, there's one distinct difference: Alabama's win over Georgia.

The Crimson Tide are clearly one of the most talented teams in the country and sit No. 3 in SP+ with the No. 1 offense, led by Milroe. That unit is going to be the difference in this matchup.

Milroe has the Tide ranked fourth in EPA per rush and 11th in EPA per dropback with his duel-threat ability being a game-changer, even against a loaded defense like Tennessee's. He's seventh in the country in adjusted completion rate (81%) and 12th in rushing yards after contact among QBs (229), per PFF.

Nico, I'm not a believa

With Milroe's talent, I think Alabama will be able to put up enough points to cover, while Tennessee will struggle to sustain scoring drives. The Volunteers have averaged just 20.6 points per game in SEC play.

Only one of the defenses they've faced has ranked in the top 30 in SP+, while the Crimson Tide are 19th. Alabama also ranks top 12 in both EPA per rush and dropback on defense and should be all over freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

Iamaleava has been dreadful as of late with as many big-time throws as turnover-worthy plays (three) in SEC play. The QBs are the difference in this matchup, and if the Crimson Tide cover, a $10 bet pays a $9.80 profit at FanDuel.

Alabama vs. Tennessee best bet

Our NEW college football player prop odds tool can help you find the best odds on any market across legal sportsbooks in your area!

Ryan Williams anytime TD scorer (+115) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The most talented player on the field Saturday might be a true freshman.

Williams has been unstoppable this season, which is why this prop is as short as -130, implying a 56.52% win probability. But this price at Caesars pays an $11.50 profit on a $10 winning bet.

Williams has scored in five of six games and ranks 12th in the country in receiving yards (576) and 13th in receiving TDs (six). He's also second in college football in both yards per route run (4.17) and YAC per reception (11.4).

He's a walking big play and can get after a Tennessee defense that's given up more points the last two weeks than it did over the first four games of the season.

Shane Jackson is also backing Williams to reach the end zone as part of his best Alabama vs. Tennessee player props.
