Ranking the Top 6 Sportsbooks for Betting NHL Hart Trophy Futures

A little over a month into the NHL season, some players have staked their claim to win the Hart Trophy, awarded to the league’s Most Valuable Player. As a result, there have been changes in the NHL futures market. Here are my rankings of the top sportsbooks for betting Hart Trophy futures.

Last week, I wrote about the latest Hart Trophy odds and how Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid is threatening to run away with the award. But it is still early. McDavid was a prohibitive favorite at this stage last season, too.

This year, McDavid started as the preseason favorite, and he has only strengthened that position with his play, scoring 15 goals and 32 points through the first 16 games.

Enough has happened that McDavid has become an even heavier favorite for the award, but there is also enough time left this season for other candidates to make their case.

Here are my rankings of the top sportsbooks for Hart Trophy futures wagering.

1. Barstool Sportsbook

This ranking comes with a caveat – Barstool has the worst odds, by a significant margin, for the betting favorite, Connor McDavid. He is priced at -134, while all other sportsbooks still have McDavid available at plus odds. Barstool also does not have odds for Jason Robertson, who is a worthy longshot, with prices ranging between +4000 and +8000 at other top sportsbooks. Having noted all of that, Barstool also has the longest or nearly longest odds for 12 of the Top 20 consensus Hart Trophy picks. So long as you don’t want to take the heavy favorite, Barstool is offering the best prices in the market.

2. DraftKings Sportsbook

Even though DraftKings’ Hart Trophy prices have a rather wide range, relative to other top sportsbooks, perhaps the most notable is that it has the longest odds (+140) for Connor McDavid. DraftKings also has the longest odds for Aleksander Barkov, Mikko Rantanen, and Nikita Kucherov, but also offers shorter than average odds for eight of the consensus Top 20 Hart Trophy picks.

3. PointsBet Sportsbook

One of the features that is consistent across several markets is that PointsBet tends to have prices in the middle of the range for the top sportsbooks. It does offer long Hart Trophy odds for Jack Eichel (+5000) and Jack Hughes (+6000), but the vast majority of PointsBet odds are relatively average. There are a few odds that are a little longer and a few that are a little shorter but, mostly, they are average. That has an appeal because it is rare to be getting the worst odds from PointsBet. Unfortunately, the best odds only happen in rare instances as well.

4. Caesars Sportsbook

Caesars does not offer the longest odds for any of the consensus contenders for the Hart Trophy. Generally, its prices fall in the middle of the range, relative to other top sportsbooks, but it is edging towards shorter odds, on average. Since Caesars lacks any Hart Trophy contenders with prices that would be considered attractive, it does not appear to be serious about trying to draw money in this market.

5. FanDuel Sportsbook

Aside from offering relatively favorable odds for David Pastrnak (+3000), Artemi Panarin (+4000), and Matthew Tkachuk (+5000), FanDuel does not have appealing Hart Trophy odds. Compared to other top sportsbooks, FanDuel has average or shorter odds for 15 of the Top 20 consensus Hart Trophy picks.

6. BetMGM Sportsbook

It takes some effort to offer worst Hart Trophy odds than FanDuel, but BetMGM is responding to that challenge. BetMGM offers the longest odds for Artemi Panarin (+4000), Sidney Crosby (+4000), Matthew Tkachuk (+5000), and Jason Robertson (+8000), so those specific players are worth considering. Otherwise, BetMGM has odds that are average or shorter for 20 of the Top 25 consensus Hart Trophy picks.
