Missouri is now less than two weeks away from launching legal sports betting. This shift will provide residents with access to regulated wagering platforms starting at midnight on December 1.

The change comes after voters approved a constitutional amendment last November. It creates a legal Missouri sports betting market that prioritizes consumer protection, responsible gaming tools, and public education funding.

Pre-registration opened on Nov. 17, allowing players to create accounts with Missouri sports betting apps, though signing up early is optional. Nine mobile operators and eight retail businesses have received temporary licenses from the Missouri Gaming Commission.

The new system includes a state requirement to allocate at least $5 million each year to problem gaming programs, reflecting input from the National Council on Problem Gaming. Missouri's 24-hour support line, 888-BETS-OFF, will continue to serve as a central resource for assistance and referrals.

Industry officials cited the contrast between regulated sportsbooks offering Missouri sportsbook promos and offshore gambling websites that have operated without oversight. Jack Cardetti at the Sports Betting Alliance said Missourians would no longer need to rely on unregulated sites prone to disputes and slow payments, noting that legally licensed operators offer account controls, transparency, and tax contributions earmarked for schools.

His comments highlighted long-standing concerns documented by consumer-protection groups, including a recent Better Business Bureau inquiry that found extensive complaints involving offshore platforms. Regulators encouraged anyone still using illegal operators after December 1 to consider the security, monitoring, and accountability built into the state's licensed market.

Public figures comment as launch nears

Missouri's shift to legal sports betting coincides with heightened national scrutiny following federal investigations into illegal gambling in professional sports. As the state prepares for the debut, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the topic during a recent media session.

He said he avoids betting due to the risks involved, adding, "I just stay away from it. I don't want to put myself in that position. Your life is so great, why mess with it?"

Mahomes' remarks followed years of debate in the legislature, where multiple attempts to establish a regulated market failed to advance. Momentum increased when Amendment 2 appeared on the November 2024 ballot.

The measure passed narrowly, making Missouri the 39th state to authorize sports betting in our legal sports betting states tracker. It established a framework that includes a 10% tax on operator revenue. Supporters said the low tax rate would encourage competition and draw major operators into the state.

The upcoming launch will feature nine licensed mobile sportsbooks. Residents can take advantage of a DraftKings Missouri promo code, a FanDuel Missouri promo code, a Caesars Missouri promo code, a BetMGM Missouri promo code, a Fanatics Missouri promo code, and a bet365 Missouri promo code. There will also be offerings from Circa SportstheScore Bet, and Underdog Sportsbook.

Their entry positions Missouri to compete with neighboring states and gives residents regulated wagering options ahead of the end-of-year sports calendar.
