Summary

U.S. Shutting Down Operations

theScore Bet and its parent company, Penn National Gaming, announced that theScore Bet would stop accepting wagers in the U.S. on June 15th, 2022 and shut down all theScore Bet U.S. operations effective July 1, 2022.

theScore Bet will continue to operate in the newly regulated province of Ontario, Canada, where theScore is based. You can read more on the situation and find FAQs on theScore's official site. Special promos are being offered for some users who sign up for a new account with theScore's sister site, Barstool Sportsbook, during the transition.

Sports Covered
Football, basketball, baseball, and hockey are the primary sports covered at theScore Bet. It also accepts bets on soccer, tennis, golf, MMA, boxing, and motorsports, plus rugby, Aussie Rules, and table tennis. It does not cover as many sports as some of its rival sports betting apps in the states it’s offered. However, sports fans will find all the biggest games of the week covered extensively with insight thanks to their integrated content from theScore Sports app.

Quality of Odds
The odds on offer at theScore Bet are reasonably competitive with industry leaders like DraftKings and FanDuel. You will not find theScore Bet on many odds comparison sites, but it typically provides standard juice lines. Its moneyline odds are average, but some of its futures betting odds are below average. Their prop odds could also be better as they are frequently offered in the range of -115 to -120 when the industry standard is -110. Overall, their odds are average to below-average. They won’t make a move near the top of the pack in competitive markets without some change here.

Online and Mobile Betting Experience
The sports betting experience is average at theScore Bet. It does not provide a traditional website, so you can only access it via theScore bet app. Most Americans now prefer to place bets via their mobile devices, but you should look elsewhere if you like betting on a larger screen while sitting at a desktop or with a laptop.

theScore Bet offers a superb mobile app for sports fans. You can download it via the App Store, where it has an average user rating of 4.7 out of 5, or at Google Play, where it is rated 4 out of 5 if you have an Android device. It is aesthetically pleasing and sleek, with superb usability and functionality. The overall mobile user experience is average or slightly better in some cases.

Live Betting
Bettors can choose from a reasonably broad selection of in-play sports betting markets on the most significant sporting events each day. It does not have as much choice as industry heavyweights like DraftKings and FanDuel, but you should still be presented with plenty of enticing live betting opportunities on theScore Bet app. It does not offer live streaming like major competitors.

Other Gaming Options
theScore Bet has not launched an online casino. However, that could change as it joins the Penn National Gaming empire. Penn National is a casino giant, and it has added a casino section to its Barstool Sportsbook brand. theScore Bet does not offer a racebook, poker, or DFS.

Reputation
theScore Bet has an average reputation with sports bettors while its sports app is the No. 1 media app in Canada. Some have complained that the withdrawal process is slow, but it always pays out in full. It is a safe, secure, licensed online sports betting operator that must abide by strict regulations in the states it operates, so you should have no concerns about its trustworthiness.

We would like to see a greater selection of prop bets, more bonuses, more favorable odds, and a desktop site. Overall, theScore Bet offers a decent all-around sports betting experience for mobile users. It has some work to do, though, if it wants to compete with industry giants and is slightly below average with all things considered.

theScore Bet History
theScore is one of the most popular sports apps in North America, providing sports news, live scores, stats, and betting information on all the major sports leagues. The business dates back to 1994 when it was launched as Sportscope, a broadcast network serving the Canadian market. theScore media app launched and began providing sports news in 2007. Rogers Communications purchased The Score Television Network in 2012, but theScore’s digital media assets were not part of the deal, so it became a standalone company in 2012.

theScore Bet launched in 2019. The brand made its debut in New Jersey on the master license of Monmouth Park Racetrack.

In August 2021, Penn National Gaming announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement to purchase theScore in a $2 billion deal consisting of cash and stock. “We are now uniquely positioned to seamlessly serve our customers with the most powerful ecosystem of sports, gaming, and media in North America, ultimately creating a community that doesn’t currently exist,” said Penn Nation president and chief executive Jay Snowden after announcing the deal. The deal closed in October 2021.

Penn National’s acquisition of theScore gives them the ability to switch to in-house technology for their gaming operations and leave major betting platform Kambi, following in the footsteps of DraftKings who also made the switch.
