In my early to mid-20's, I dated a girl named Happy. Not a nickname, this was her given first name. Her middle name was Leigh. Thats right....Happyleigh.

I'm not sure why African Americans think they are 'slave names' if they pick normal names for their kids.

That would mean that if they grow up learning English, they are learning slave language. Why not speak an African language?

On a somewhat related note, last year when I was in California I helped teach a Sunday School class at a large church, and the racial makeup of the Sunday School class was probably 65% hispanic, 20% white, and 15% black.

Anyway, the most common names for the girls(I swear this to be true) were Rihanna, Aaliyah, Ashanti, and Beyonce.

I think too many of these parents need to stop getting naming inspiration from R&B artists.
