schism is probably my favorite tool song. great mix of their atmospheric shit with actual rock-timed shit. i am not really a tool fan though.

i like a weird mix of stuff. sadly as much as i like music i can't honestly say i have a favorite band.

how about my favorite song at the moment? i swear to god if you can listen to this song and not feel anything you have water flowing through your veins.

[QUOTE=Roadtrip635;14368396]Nice list, growing up near San Antonio and listened to a lot of Rush, huge Rush town, still one of my all time favs. Triumph's "Fight The Good Fight" was our High School graduation song!
As far as Canada's best, got to add Fred Eaglesmith to that list, kinda like a Canadian Robert Earl Keen.

Yea? I grew up in San Antonio and Rush was definitely its favorite band. Saw them at Municipal Auditorium about a 100 years ago. Man they were/are great.

Wondered how long it would be until a Fredhead popped up in the discussion of Canada's finest. Absolutely agree, Fred is absolutely representative of the small (relative to the US country market) alt-country market that Canada has churned out over the last decade or so. So many acts that are famous in Canada but unable to really break the stranglehold a few name labels have in the US.

And as far as fave' bands - add Thin Lizzy to mine, again - before my time to have seen them in their prime, but absolutely amazing group.

Never saw them at the Municipal, but I did see them at the old Hemisfair Arena and at one of the Texas Jams at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Good times...

Fred's great, seen and met him several times, Fred's a great songwriter. One of my buddies used "Wilder Than Her" as their wedding song when he got married, totally appropriate.

Only difference in that argument is that Jordan is quantifiable as the best. He has statistics, highlights, and a career that prove that he is the greatest basketball player of all time. How does one actually determine the best drummer? What makes a drummer good?

Rhythmic ability? Pretty sure 99.9% of all drummers are equal.
Speed? Mudvayne and Slipknot have amongst the fastest drummers.
Ability to improvise? Probably the most likely candidate, but then that just comes down to preference.

I don't think dead can name 300 bands, much less 300 drummers of said bands. I seriously doubt that Carey and Barker are surpassed by too many drummers. However, I think the difference between the best drummer in the world and the 300th best drummer in the world (however you would quantify it) would be approximately equivalent to the difference between Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant (i.e. not much).

dude, i bet i could name 300 different styles of music. i was raised in a family band...like the partridge family. so there's 1 band....i can easily name 299 more....over 2,000 actually...without using the internet.

Don't have one band that's truly my favorite. I really like The Doors, Queen, Muse, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, Aerosmith

there has not been a debate on "best" band...it's about "favorite" band. and that's pathetic that u would say buffet is the best.

I have been to many concerts but there is nothing like being at a Tool concert. If you like them they are on tour right now and I really suggest seeing them live if you haven't already. My favorite song is Schism. Here is the video. It's long but listen to it if you don't even know who they are. The drummer is Danny Carey and he is just plain sick.
