Welp I'm also a threadbumper of ancient threads so here's my two cents. Betplom and I have been doing it here for years, it has nothing to do with him being unbanned and trying to be disruptive to trash the forum or test the mod's mettle. I'm not as familiar with the history of Archie bumps but I imagine he does it for the same reason. Stuff we think is funny or relevant gets sent top the top.

98% of posters never get put on Post Review for bumping ancient threads. Those that make it routine are usually sent a friendly note.

so 2% of posters would overwhelm the forum with bumping? and there would be no current topics? I think you underestimate the attention span, posting per hr avg, and interests of your posters.


again, my bumps were relevant to current topics so that explanation doesn't really hold weight anyways.

What's the problem with bumping threads? Classic threads are infinitely more entertaining/informative than the garbage threads the likes of resident fucktards Sammy, Broke Landers, ttwarrior, etc. regularly start.

My PM's are disabled by choice. I don't bother to look to see if anything is there, although I'm aware a mod can slip one through.

I might bump on average 5 old threads a week. Rather inconsequential to disrupting the flow. I could understand if someone bumps 50 threads in half an hour.

Bumping old threads can be embarrassing to some more than merely disruptive. Like if say someone were to call Haitians vile smelling creatures or something that could make the poster that posted something like look bad.

I guess its subjective. Many of the regulars click on a thread only to find out its years old, bumped up with no comment or new info just a smiley face. I would reason that many of those who click some obscure old thread are annoyed and thus that can be considered by the mods to be disruptive. They will reset users to post review to mitigate the situation.

If you can not find anything interesting I would suggest trying back later. Everyone is welcome to go back and visit the old threads if they are super bored. But no reason to give them the smiley face bump.
