#5Word of advice....don't go balls out on it unless she REALLY wants a particular one...I fell for that and after 2-3 years suddenly 'it's too big to wear everyday' 'i don't wanna chip it' etc....focus on a good wedding band....THAT she will wear long term after the showing off for her friends kick wears off. Best of luck!Comment -

#123 months salary is absurd. If she loses it or it gets jacked or any number of things then you are out a quarter years salary. If the girl you are with is expecting a ring worth that much then I would drop that gold digger like a bad habbit. My wife picked out a ring that cost $1200 which was about 1/30th of what I was making back then. This was about 5 years ago and we are still happily married with kids. Save some of that cash for something useful like a down payment on a car/house, or use some of it for your honeymoon. If you are getting the ring financed you are making a huge mistake. Wait to buy the expensive jewelry later in your marriage. My Dad proposed to my Mom with a pearl ring with no diamonds at all. Nearly forty years later they are still happily married enjoying their retirement together going on awesome vacations and he is buying her some sweet bling now. They made safe and sound financial decisions early so that their life would be better later.Comment -

#18$2,700 (10 years ago), but think there was some unwritten rule that a person should spend 5% of their yearly salary? Thats doesn't happen most times... and didnt happen in my case either.Comment -

#19How much do you pay for an engagement ring?
50 percent of your take home pay, your penis, because once the wedding ring goes on, the sex dries up, years of constant nagging for starters, crying babies, and most of your house once she decides to divorce you even if you are not in the wrong.
How much? Close the 700K or so.Comment -

#22It really shouldn't matter how much you spend. If she's the type of woman who insists on material displays of your affection or she's the type of person who values class status so much that it actually matters to her how much you spend then she's not worthy marrying.
That said, when I was in graduate school I started putting $20 a week in a coffee can after we'd be dating for 6 months and after a year I had a ring designed and built by a local artist/jeweler. It remains one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry, and certainly the most unique, that I've ever seen. Just like my wife (awwwwwwww....isn't that sweet).Comment -

#26i believe it is 3 months salary.I spent around that much, she picked out though, just told her how much she had to spend. It seems that is the trend now, for the women to pick out what she wants.Comment -

#28i got a family diamond. if not i would not be spending 3 months salary - that is just dumb especially if you are trying to start a family or buy a house or something. unless you work at burger king or mcdonalds then you better spend a year's salary...Comment -
