Foreclosures are still high. People are broke and moving into shanty towns. I'm just glad to have a room and working internet.

Just wait until the banks shadow inventory eventually hits the market... home prices will fall even worse then they are now.

it's quite sad really. two of the homes were custom built couple years ago. at the height they were valued at close to $1 mil but now maybe 1/3.
there's another house nearby (beautiful 4 bedroom house) that has never been lived in. cause just as they were done building it, market collapsed. they were asking $900k but now it's down around $300k.
kinda eerie now that there are 5 empty houses around me with no signs of life. just hope crack whores and dumpster divers dont start moving in.

You can practice stripping a house of it's fixtures and copper piping. After 3 or 4, the fifth house should be a breeze.

My neighborhood is like that in Vegas. My LAST neighborhood was even worse. It was either a foreclosed upon house or a house with 20+ people living in it. Glad I rent... Yeesh

move.. you lost lotsa value in your home already.. more foreclosures = less value..
get another house and abandon that one (if you can't afford to pay two mortgages..)
good luck to you!

Were these people that had no business on getting a house in the first place? Or did they just fall on hard times? I feel for those people that have fallen on hard times and lost their jobs. I don't feel sorry for the people that had no business getting a house when they knew they couldn't afford it in the first place. Great opportunities in parts of the Country for homes.

what state is this in? i wouldn't mind buying a $900k house for $300k.

My friend stopped paying his mortgage in September of 2009, he just got the notice last week that it is going up for auction in July. (South Florida)

Too many people are spending more than they can afford on a house. Amazing how people believe they can afford a house because the bank approves them for that amount.

Sounds like Vegas. I paid $335k 4 years ago. Doing a strategic shortsale and the buyer is offering 144,500. Looks like the bank is gonna approve, now just finalizing our cash contribution. At some point you have to make a choice I'd rather lose my down payment than wait the next 20 years to break even.

It's a combo of both....If you are looking to buy,i would wait another year or so,values are still going down
