I was warned by my provider last year for illegal downloading. A movie studio informed them and they in turn warned me.

Haven't used torrents since. I've learned, and Nittany Lion is right, that you can get around it if you use a proxy.

There really is no FREE fast way to do this for downloading torrents as far as I know. You need to be behind a proxy and I'm pretty sure any good proxy that will be fast will cost money. Then you have to question yourself, why spend $10 a month for a proxy to download torrents when you can go to a Usenet provider like Astraweb and get an unlimited account for $11 per month, and then you'll be able to download everything securely and full speed unlike torrents.

I went to see it for the few bucks it costs... who care about 10 bucks if your gambling hundreds a week anyways... at least you are getting something out of it, regardless of the quality of the movie.

If you want to learn more about usenet/newsgroup/NZB files these are the sites I found helpful. I'm just learning as well. If you read the links below it should give you most of the stuff you need to know, but you sort of need to be computer savvy to know how to do everything. Anybody can torrent, but it takes more knowledge to use newsgroups which is why alot of people don't.

Yawn.....I've downloade hundreds of movies for me and my kid. Never got one single letter or warning, and I have Comcast. But ya Expendables is pretty bad.

What do u use, piratebay or a private tracker? I've been using torrents for years and I've never received a single letter/infraction either or anything from my ISP. It's pretty rare to receive one but it still scares me some, especially if my ISP decided to cut me off or something since where I live Qwest DSL is the only option for high speed internet.

I get more and more paranoid every time I see news about these companies going after people. I have a large collection and yes it includes the Expendables. Maybe it's time to avoid the torrent sites, I might research into TorrentPrivacy to see if it actually works and make sure it's not a scam.

I wonder how they go after the IP's of people since almost everybody has dynamic IP's that constantly change. I have Qwest DSL service and my IP changes all the time. I guess they must take those IP's that are accused of downloading the movie, and then find out who those IP's belonged to on the day the movie was downloaded.

That pdf list of IP's in that wired article is useless since almost everybody on that list will have a different IP by now, so it's pointless checking it to see if your IP is on it.

(EDIT)I checked my log and I downloaded the Expendables back in November 2010 when it came out on bluray. All the people being sued downloaded it in 2011. I guess it pays to download them as soon as they come out.

There's no real safe way. If they want to get your IP address they can still trace it from a proxy. Will that ever happen? Unlikely.

yeah i was warned from a friend not to use piratebay after the great mininova.org site got taken down. he said piratebay is one that is tracked more than others...that being said btjunkie.org is a pretty good one

i use peerblock myself and i do agree that its not a fail-safe or foolproof. while easy to use a proxy-hider (hidemyass.com is one ive used before), i wanna learn how to hop on utorrent and ghost the ip on there. then again i use my apartment office's public unsecured wifi so im not too worried

I bet they are going after people for downloading this movie since they paid a shit load of money to all the A list actors that were in it, and they probably only made a few million dollars profit (if any)....so they are trying to exhaust all their options to get as much money as possible.

The same thing happened to "The Hurt Locker," it won a few Oscars but it didn't make much money so they went after people that downloaded it. So I guess people need to watch out for movies that door poorly at the box office, cause they will come after you to sue you.
