#4I'd be pretty pissed if I had to pay 3 grand for that shitty movie.
Anyone know if a movie studio has ever been sued for putting out a bad movie and making people waste their time. I think a class action suit against Glitter, Gigli or Water World would bring a record judgement.Comment -

#6this is not entirely true, if your name is on there it only means they have your IP address and are attempting to find the identities so that they can sue them. If you get one of the letters from this do not automatically admit anything. Sometimes they initiate these suits so that they can scare people into easy hassel free payoffs without doing any work.
go to this link, scroll down and click on the WIRED IP detective and it will tell you if the IP you are on has been included http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/201...awsuit-checkerComment -

#15PeerBlock is not going to save you, it only blocks known bad IP's. If a company wants to get the IP's of people downloading/uploading a torrent they are not going to use an IP on the peerblock list. The only real way to protect yourself is to be behind a proxy, there are also pay for services out there like TorrentPrivacy that are suppose to 100% protect you but I don't know how well they work. Peerblock is better then nothing though, I use it but I doubt if it will help at all.
I get more and more paranoid every time I see news about these companies going after people. I have a large collection and yes it includes the Expendables. Maybe it's time to avoid the torrent sites, I might research into TorrentPrivacy to see if it actually works and make sure it's not a scam.
I wonder how they go after the IP's of people since almost everybody has dynamic IP's that constantly change. I have Qwest DSL service and my IP changes all the time. I guess they must take those IP's that are accused of downloading the movie, and then find out who those IP's belonged to on the day the movie was downloaded.
That pdf list of IP's in that wired article is useless since almost everybody on that list will have a different IP by now, so it's pointless checking it to see if your IP is on it.
(EDIT)I checked my log and I downloaded the Expendables back in November 2010 when it came out on bluray. All the people being sued downloaded it in 2011. I guess it pays to download them as soon as they come out.Last edited by Nittany Lion; 05-12-11, 01:45 AM.Comment -

#16if i get a letter I'll reply with two words, BLOW ME
that movie was so bad they should pay me for taking the time to download it. Hey movie studio, only way you get a dime from me is if you BLOW ME you cocksuckers.
okay little too much to drink, but seriously the lawyers, movie stuidos, actors, and the judge himself can all get on their fuckkin knees and take turns blowing me.Comment -

Sigh..I guess you still don't understand so whatever. Do you really think peerblock knows the IP's of these "snoops" the article mentions or anybody else that might be capturing IP's?
"The IP addresses of the alleged copyright scofflaws are easily discoverable. Film companies pay snoops to troll BitTorrent sites, dip into active torrents and capture the IP addresses of the peers who are downloading and uploading pieces of the files."

#22True.
You should never download newly released movies from a torrent site. Those are the ones where they are looking to burn you.
You can find 99.9% of the movies you want, if you know where to look, and download them from megaupload or stream them.
Or get a usenet account with an SSL connection at a place like Astraweb. I can download 180GB worth of stuff and I only paid 25 bucks. Download movies, tv shows, music, or whatever using NewsLeecher.Comment -

From what I've seen, the safest time to torrent a newly released movie is when it first comes out, the movie studios aren't prepared yet. Just look at the PDF list off all the IP's they captured for downloading the Expendables, it's all in 2011 yet the movie came out on torrent sites Nov. of 2010 which is when I downloaded it.
I always hear about people that have usenet and download everything from there but I have no idea how it works. I've always been happy with thepiratebay and utorrent, it's easy to search for stuff and I like that they have a hot 100 list for each category so you can just click on high res movies for example and see what new stuff has come out.
Several months ago I tried out a site called "tehparadox" where releasers use different kind of online storage providers to upload content to, like megaupload, netload, fileserve, etc. but each of them have limitations for non-members. Which means you might have to wait before you can download, or your download is limited in bandwidth or size, or you can download only 1 file at a time or maybe even one file per hour. If you sign-up and pay for an account on lets say megaupload, there is no guarantee that the releasers will use that site for their uploads so you might not be able to download alot of the movies you want. So that is why I just went back to torrents.Comment -

I'm going to look into usenet though since so many people say it's better then using torrents, I'm watching a bunch of youtube vids right now and reading websites to see how to do it. Anybody have recommendations for what usenet to pay for?Comment -

Or you can get a block account, which is what I purchased from Astraweb. It was 25 bucks for 180GB and it lasts for as long as you want it to, or until you've used up all your gigabytes. I purchased this in the beginning January and I still have around 100GB left. Since I download mostly using free megaupload, I basically just use the usenet account as a backup in case Megaupload is acting up or I can't find what I want.
Here is a page you can check out with different usenet company's with pricing and reviews. Like I said though, if you look around and you want an unlimited account you can usually find a deal for around 10 bucks a month.
