To be honest - and I'm speaking as a poster and not an employee - I'm not sure why he's not banned for good. I've never asked anyone so anything I say would just be speculation.
He sent me an email a few minutes ago calling me a skank, a pathetic loser, etc... yet a part of me still feels deeply sorry for him. I've never seen someone on SBR so hell bent on being miserable and while I've been vocal about people just leaving him alone if they don't want him to go off, today was solely his doing. Deuce's thread had nothing to do with him and actually could have been a funny, positive thread yet he was insistent on trolling it. And then he starts this one, crying yet again - however he had no clue that the post he had complained about via email and PM had already been dealt with. He whines when he feels others treat him badly yet he just spews venom 99% of the time. I don't understand him at all.Comment -

The problem here and has been the case since I have been a member is how and when this is enforced. There are a good deal of posters who insult and a good deal more who are disrespectful and you will grow tired of counting posters who post nonsense around here.
No doubt Bater's paints a target on himself, there is no denying he antagonizes and conscious or not pushes the envelope and earns himself periodic timeouts but he isn't alone.
Mods have always handed out punishments and many of those infractions have caused more than just a few head scratches. It's because the moderators are allowed to interpret the rules. Allowing individual discretion opens up a Pandora's Box.
A mod allows one guy to slide because he's not generally a trouble-maker or the mod has a relationship of sorts with the poster and therefore assumes he means no harm but then lowers the boom on the next guy for basically the same thing just because that poster is a tool is not enforcing the rules they are selectively enforcing a convenience.
For the record I do not represent Bateman nor am I defending him, I just figured since I survived the apocalypse yesterday I would post something to earn my Pro Points for today.Comment -
Wally, only because my Flash player is fukking up and I can't see French Open scores at the moment am I replying to this. Not because I don't want to reply to you - you know I adore you - but getting into these debates with posters publicly never ends with everyone 100% satisfied and if anything, I have FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY learned that there's no point in my doing so. The other day I was accused of censorship. Never mind another poster had received a warning for doing the same thing the previous day. There will always be people that want to bitch and although I am by nature a people pleaser and just want to make things ok, this job has drilled it into my head that it's impossible. Unfortunately there are people who manipulate, scam, downright lie to me while trying to appeal to me as a parent, launch vendettas against fellow posters, etc... Crazy shit all around.
As for Bateman: Bateman wasn't banned for insulting me or questioning my parenting methods, how good of a mother I am, if I'm a slut (apparently I must be because I obviously had sex at least once). If that were the case there would be many more guys who were restricted from SBR. There are a lot of comments that are made that you guys don't see because they're either caught by Mods in time or the person is on Post Review (usually because they're a ghost) so their comments never get posted.
Bateman knew he was on thin ice when he returned. He wrote an apology - which ironically mentioned me specifically - and again vowed to just be a regular poster doing their thing. Yes people provoke him. But people provoke me and a lot of others who post on the forum. He knew the deal. In fact him and I even talked at length on Skype about just letting this shit roll off of his back. Words on a screen.
The day he was banned he started posting things again that weren't acceptable. Whether people were provoking him or not, WE ARE STRANGERS ON THE INTERNET. USE THE IGNORE FEATURE IF YOU CANNOT CONTROL YOURSELF. Especially for a guy who takes special delight in telling people how long he's been a member here, he's a Pro, they're worthless, etc...
Bateman kept going and going and going. And then finally he launched at me. Again after a couple of hours of posting crap and already receiving 2 infractions (for those angels out there - 3 in a certain time frame = 10 day ban). I wasn't officially working although when I'm logged in, I actually am to some extent. I asked another Mod about the post and at the same time a 3rd employee contacted me and said it was time for him to go. He had made an apology on the condition of his returning to the forum and broke it within x number of days.
Barring divine intervention (John), he is not returning. He has sent me so many nasty things via email that I've blocked him from getting through but from what I can see when others forward replies, it's not happening. I never really bought into the whole "people are turned off of SBR because of him" thing until I took this job. And you know what? Some are. Some of the people advocating for a permanent ban are PT-ers who may or may not have an agenda but a good chunk of them are people you've most likely never heard of because they're not as vocal as some of us high post count losers. But they're watching. That really surprised me.
When someone has a rap sheet of infractions for the same thing over and over and over, at what point do you say enough's enough? Especially when they send multiple PM's and emails promising they've changed and it'll never happen again. Sorry but I won't do one thing to help facilitate the process of him returning and it has nothing to do with what he said to me, which essentially was nonsense - even including the nasty emails. He has had more chances than anyone I can possibly think of and to be honest, I don't see the point. His presence only creates mayhem on the forum and from a business standpoint, SBR employees spend so much time dealing with either him or the fallout of his actions that even financially, it's a lose-lose proposition.
As much as I hate to see a long-time poster gone, this one in particular is not going to cause me to lose any sleep. I guess there's a reason he's banned pretty much every where else.Comment -
