Heres the problem when it comes to gender identity. 2 out of every 100 births are babies that are intersex. Do some research. Those 2 babies are born with reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit the boxes of female or male. Sometimes doctors (talk to a OB/GYN) do surgeries on o]these intersex babies to make them fit female or male. Doctors have to assign a legal sex at birth in most states but that doesn’t mean that person will grow up with that identity. Being intersex is naturally occurring. It isn’t a medical problem. But let me ask you. How would you feel if you were born with both genitalia? Would you be pissed if a doctor cut off your penis at birth? Or your vagina? What if your kid was a hermaphrodite? Would you assign them male or female?

So what do we do? Should a person born intersexed be able to compete with others? It’s very complicated. Competing in grade school probably wouldn’t be an issue but certainly HS is. I don’t have an answer. I tend to believe that shouldn’t be able to compete male or female. It that’s totally unfair to them.

I think there’s a LOT more intersexed people out there than we are aware of. The statistics show there’s tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands. I know an OBGYN that did a lot of those operations at birth. Imagine if your kid had multi sex organs or were missing some at birth. That’s very tough. You choose for them to be a girl but they really want to be a boy. Those are dynamics I’ve never had to consider. Maybe they had more testosterone or estrogen growing up. I could see that leading to confusion. If it was my kid, I’d want them to have a normal life.

I am sure you've gone to a pub or a backyard BBQ where you have met people who disagree with you on a topic of conversation. How you conducted yourself was up to you.
