My name is Art Del Cueto and I currently serve as Vice President, Western Region, of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), where I represent Border Patrol field agents and support staff. I was born on the border, grew up on the border and have more than 18 years of experience as a Border Patrol Agent, as well as a thorough understanding of the policies affecting border security and illegal narcotics trafficking. Throughout my career in the Border Patrol, I have served in the Tucson, Arizona Sector and have personally engaged in narcotics enforcement activities in and around tribal communities in Southern Arizona.

Since he took office in January of last year, the policies enacted by President Biden and his Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have directly resulted in the least secure border I’ve ever observed inmy 18-year career. Due to the Biden Administration’s border and immigration policies, we haveseen historically high numbers of individuals, families and children illegally crossing the border over the past year, which has forced the Border Patrol to dedicate more than 50% of its resources to activities other than patrolling the border, creating gaps along our border

I would hope 100% would agree we need walls in strategic locations. That’s pretty common sense. But to try and build a wall across this country is not very economical, nor wise. That money is better served enforcing border laws. You need more than walls, more people come in legally through our front door then overstay their welcome. Many of them end up giving birth to kids in the US because they immediately become US citizens. You can’t stop those folks with a wall.
