There are a few active threads here on what is going on in Afghanistan, and the most common response seems to be one of these four: blame
Bush, blame Obama, blame Trump or blame Biden. Permit me to (attempt) to swing this thread in a different direction. Anyone else on this forum been there since 2001? What are your thoughts? Many mistakes were made over 20 years, and it is unfair to pinpoint one person or political group for the situation in Afghanistan. The US tried for 20 years to make the national army a force, but no amount of money, technology, US willpower can make those folks fight for their country.. It simply did not work.

If I compared this situation to the baseball analogy.... I would say that we were up by 10 runs and the game was in hand, when the US killed Bin Laden. That was the point of this whole mission in the first place. The decision to stay and try to nation build caused us to blow the game.
