This is a fallacy. Almost nobody gets their morals from reading the bible. They just pretend that they do.

Here is a couple of gems from the bible that most people don't follow:

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives."

Exodus 21:20-21 – "If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."

I could name dozens of others. And this is the book I am supposed to get my morals from? The evidence for people being kind or moralistic because of religion is almost never true. In fact, the evidence seems to point in exactly the opposite direction of this.

It's no coincidence that many of the most violent countries in the world are also the most religious. I know you will say... "They are worshipping the wrong God. And if they only just got their morals from the Bible then they would have very good morals." I refer you to look at the above quotes again. Then you will say something like "We live in a different time now and that is not longer moralistic".
