Have any of you delved into the dark web (not to be confused with the "deep web"...two different animals).
I've been curious about it and even went as far as downloading the Tor browser, but never got further with it than opening it and confirming that it was connected to the Onion network. I'm guessing I went onto an NSA watchlist as soon as I started the download.
But I read an article earlier that says 96% of information on the internet is contained in thedark deep web. That seems outlandish to me. As vast as the "surface" internet is, it's only 4% of what's out there?
And from what I've read, the dark web has legitimate information...not just thugs, criminals and terrorists. It just happens to be that, as the most secure network available, that is the domain that they choose.
As you may know, part of the privacy aspect of the Tor browser is that it bounces a connection off of several servers before it reaches its final destination, thus making it very difficult to trace. But I read in another place (book: The Art of Invisibility) that the NSA realizes their shortcoming in being able to track this type of traffic, so in the moniker of "if you can't beat them, join them", they actually own a number of the Tor bouncing servers (anonymously of course)!!!
Any experience with the dark web? (I'm not with the NSA...wink, wink)
