Covid 19 Snapshot 6-16-20 - Florida Welcomes The 2nd Wave
The goofily random and reckless “reopening” of Florida – combined with the usual Red Herd stupidity – has put down the red carpet for Covid 19 resurgence. Despite the state’s feverish attempts to cook the numbers, they can’t avoid those pesky labs, insisting on obeying the law requiring direct reports to the CDC of diagnostic test results confirming Coronavirus cases. So, the tragically factual truth had to be faced.

Officials across Central Florida and throughout the state are taking a few steps backwards as they assess a recent, steady rise in newly reported cases of COVID-19.

The federal “response” to the new Covid 19 spread? Naturally, “blame it on the testing”.

I can hear the Red Herd morons now chanting: “Lock Up The Labs!!!” across every Red State they infest – but, if Florida insists on the catastrophic path it’s on – will the germaphobic POTUS still look forward to a “packed” convention in Jacksonville? Nevermind the infection-bound Red Herd idiots, shoulder-to-shoulder, screaming approval at every self-congratulation the Orange Blimp offers - will Trump be wearing a hazmat suit? Appear in a plastic bubble? Or, will he move the convention to someplace like Wyoming, photoshop a crowd, and dub in the cheers, applause, and chants?

I can also hear the virus cheering: "Hey, Florida - good to see you again!"

florida's deaths per day are not significantly increasing so that death stat has nothing to do with its reopening. in fact, florida has half the amount of deaths that new jersey has and florida has more than twice their population. new york still has more deaths than florida also. they only have a higher percent increase because they didnt kill everyone already like the northern states. if the increased confirmed cases dont translate into deaths then they dont matter.

Actually, it’s the death rate that matters more than the number of newly dead (who get reported up to 10 days after the fact). The rate at which the infected die is determined by the death total/the number of infected - and 9k plus newly infected translates into a lot of dead Floridians down the line. Thing is, when this was happening in Virginia a couple weeks ago, they paused and restructured their “reopening”, and I can’t believe DeSantis won’t do the same. It’s this new spread of the virus that has to be halted – otherwise hospitals get swamped, and the dead start to pile up.

Actually, Hawaii is not nearly as safe as people think. Check the death rate out. The State is nearly bankrupt because of lost revenue and the end is not in sight.

Ok, that's good you're getting out. I was picturing you hunkered down in a basement somewhere with your only natural sunlight being just an occasional sliver peaking through one of those tiny below grade basement windows. It is all going to be ok though. Just give it time.

On the hand, maybe DeSantis is a bigger ass than I thought.

No place is safe from a killer you can’t see, but having only 740 confirmed Covid 19 cases and 17 dead, which is a death rate of 0.023%. Bottom line, I’d rather be here this summer than in any southern Red state – and I’m not even a friggin Democrat. Tourism they say is down 50%, and unemployment is through the roof, but “reopening” is ticking along, even with severe restrictions. It’s good to have a governor who hasn’t got his head up Trump’s ass.
