Leadership Failure In The Time Of Covid 19
One of the greatest failures of democracies (ahead of even appreciating sheer corruptibility at the highest levels), is the lack of judgment by the people of the competence of those whom they place in power. Examples of such failure abound throughout history – badly planned and executed wars being the most acute examples, along with egregious fumbling during economic crises, leaders who fail in the face of civil unrest, and – today – presidents and prime ministers who bungle, catastrophically, when confronted by natural disasters.

Covid 19 is an ongoing natural disaster, and the people of Brazil, the United Kingdom and the United States are paying the severe costs of having elected as leaders, those whose demonstrated incompetence, given the magnitude of the disaster, will mark them historically as the greatest bunglers of all time. Representing less than 7.8% of the world population, these three nations, today, account for nearly half of the world’s Covid 19 infections and deaths; and the blundering responses to this disease by Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, Boris Johnson of the UK, and Donald Trump of the U.S. will headline the sections of history books devoted to the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020-2021, for decades – perhaps centuries – to come. In the short-term, a fast and furious political spin as well as deflection of public attention (We’re Going To Mars!), will soften the public’s current response to scrutiny into this abysmal lack of competence, but enough has been written already, and the facts painfully apparent, that historians will have an easy time fixing blame.

Johnson and Bolsonaro, 2 Fruitloops who have copied their Covid 19 responses after Douchebag Don. No wonder the UK people have suffered so much and the people of Brazil will as well going forward.

Geeshhhhhh, 47 views WB and not one person has come in your thread to give any love to Douchebag Don. You must have hit a nerve.

Trump quickly shut off travel from China.

      Got millions of ventilators produced.

Supplied the people with generous economic relief.

Sent the massive "floating hospital" to NY.

No poor leadership from The Donald; quite the contrary.

        Blaming Trump.

Is like blaming the NFL franchise owner for bad calls the head coach makes on the field.

        Just saying.

"Trump quickly shut off travel from China."?

Well, he didn’t really shut of travel to China, did he. By April, 430,000 people had traveled to the U.S. from China – so there must have been a slight leak somewhere. Besides, regardless of where it began, Covid 19 was already in the U.S. and spreading like wildfire, so his persisting fixation on China was hardly a help. In fact, if he hadn’t dithered around in February with cockamamie ideas like it being a big media hoax, or a conspiracy hatched by the Chinese or Democrats – which only pleased his base – and, instead, had straightaway adopted the S. Korean model for confronting the pandemic – things would have been quite different.

              "Got millions of ventilators produced."?

After two further months of dithering, he announced in late March that companies had “volunteered” to mass produce ventilators for U.S. hospitals which desperately needed them - weeks earlier. Of course, his “volunteers” hadn’t done any such thing – and wouldn’t – until, finally, with the death count going through the roof, and his lack of effective response becoming a mass media topic, Trump invoked the Defense Production Act – which then paid GM and Ford – his “volunteers” to produce “millions of ventilators”, which arrived too late for U.S. hospitals, and most, in fact, were shipped to Africa.

"Supplied the people with generous economic relief."?

As far as “generous economic relief” goes, I suppose if one lives in Somalia, a $1200 check would seem “generous”, indeed. But for 40 million unemployed Americans, it was only a tad better than nothing.

"Sent the 'massive floating hospital' to NY."?

Well your “massive floating hospital”, refused NY’s Covid 19 patients, and also arrived too late to be of any use.

No, Trump’s “leadership” in this crisis, has been, and continues to be, catastrophically poor. If anything, his behavior is like his business model; if it’s broke, declare bankruptcy and walk away – blaming everybody else as he goes.

Stop. Trump did nothing. Don't go down that route. He praised xi. He said it will be gone in no time.

“Listen to experts” is new liberal crying point. He was .... 99/100 experts told him it wouldn’t be an issue in US back in Jan/feb. and when it came an issue he shut shit down to the disgrin of his constituents. Liberals Monday morning quarterbacking. What’s new.
