It was a TRAVESTY that he got in.
You start to consider the non-HOFers that are out...but Baines got in. There are guys u never even considered for the HOF...but they have a WAR north of Baines' WAR score.
You start w/ the top of the heap. The guys who really SHOULD be in. Lou Whitaker + Dwight Evans come to mind. Their WAR scores are almost DOUBLE Baines'. Main difference is that Lou + Dwight had all-around games and made strong defensive contributions, while Baines DH'd a good portion of his career.
If you include Pitchers...the list gets very lengthy. Again, I'm talking guys that DON'T get pushed for the HOF. But their mechanical WAR score is north of Baines'. Fernando Valenzuela, Hershiser, Mark Langston, Jamie Moyer.
Go even deeper. How about a defensive specialist like Mark Belanger? Only 1316 hits, but his WAR score is higher than Baines.
