Has anyone received refunds from booked international travel due to the shutdown? Specifically, I've noticed that most airlines try to maintain your cash on balance and act as though you can only get vouchers, not cash refunds for cancelled, or soon to be cancelled flights. That made me think, insurance of these high level CC (AMEX, Chase Sapphire, Citi) must also cover these, no? The scumbag question that follows, of course, is if you can get the insurance of the credit card to reimburse you, but still on file would be the theoretical travel with the airline that you might be able to still use, seemingly a double dip. I can't say I wouldn't consider it, given the fees and gouging that CC do to people all year long.

#2Got credits at first, then showed them the pentagon travel ban; which led to refunds. Had a booking with Sixt rental car company and they were being cucks about a refund. Disputed their charge with Amex for the refund.
Double dips do not work. They have you on file, trust me.
Good luck.Comment -

#3I think you did it the wrong way though --- the question would be, how would the airline know, theoretically they got paid and the CC insurance just kicked in. In a sense, the airline still might have had your money (unless the card company resolved it by getting something back from the airline). Thanks for your input, regardless, EbumComment -

#6My first inquiry to obtain a refund is when the crap initially started to hit the fan. Companies did not want to issue refunds at first without some sort of outside pressure. No worries. Good luck though.Originally posted by StackinGreenI think you did it the wrong way though --- the question would be, how would the airline know, theoretically they got paid and the CC insurance just kicked in. #7Gotcha, one last thing ... I've had a heckuva a time getting the good German airline on the phone, even though they just confirmed the cancellation. Even the website won't pull it up as a booking, though they just sent me the email on their system. Convenient that you can't do it online and you can't connect with anyone (I'm sure they are getting a deluge of calls, no doubt). Should I just dispute this with the credCard company then? I figure why pay my fees and have all these benefits if I'm not going to use them (legwork) for something.
Thanks boys.Comment -

#8As an update, and to close I guess, it took 1 business day for them to reverse the charge (as it should be). Amazing, just so you guys know.Comment
